March is filled with opportunities: winter turns to spring, the clock provides an extra hour of sun, and Mardi Gras, St. Patrick's Day, & Spring Break encourage holiday drinking. This is also your chance to take control and to think about what's right for you. Take care of yourself and your community. If you choose to drink, remember it

On this did you know that research shows women start to have alcohol-related problems at lower drinking levels than men do?

After a man and woman of the same weight drink the same amount of alcohol, the woman's blood alcohol concentration will tend to be higher, putting her at greater risk for harm.

Impairment is a contributing factor in far too many transportation accidents across all modes, with alcohol impairment as a leading cause of highway crashes.

We want to continue to see states adopt per se BAC limits of 0.05 percent or below, as well as broaden their use of other effective countermeasures, like ignition interlock devices and high-visibility enforcement.

Impairment in transportation is not limited to just alcohol; it also includes impairment by other drugs— legal or illicit.

We want a national drug testing standard for passenger vehicles and stronger screening and toxicology testing in commercial transportation.

Sobriety Checkpoints and Saturation Patrols Set for January

Las Cruces police will conduct at least two sobriety checkpoints and two saturation patrols within city limits during the month of January.

Sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols held by LCPD are intended to reduce and eliminate the number of motorists who drive while intoxicated.

Officers also will be on the lookout for other traffic safety violations such as drivers using cell phones, and those who fail to properly utilize seatbelts and child safety seats.

Las Cruces Police encourage those who plan on consuming alcoholic beverages to use a designated driver – someone who will not be drinking alcoholic beverages – for their transportation needs.

I was ready to have fun to make lots of cheer when a message I saw on my coaster made clear

There's no place like home it reads, but the message is there, it says to be safe, it says to take care, it tells me that responsibility is ours to share

it says, but it's all about you and how to care that yes, you make it home, too.

Our thoughts are with the families of all those injured in this tragic incident. Our hope is that this preventable tragedy will help open conversations at home, at school, and throughout our community regarding underage drinking and its negative consequences.

Shift Positive works to educate the community on the harms of alcohol misuse and shifting the perceptions that lead parents and other adults to believe it is safer to drink at home than in the unknown. We'll continue this work with a goal of preventing tragedies like this from happening again. If you'd like more information on how the social host ordinance works in your community call 915-730-3805.

The vote was postponed at this morning's County Commissioners meetings because Commissioner Vince Perez was absent. We will be presenting the survey results on October 2nd.

What do you think? Should alcohol be served at the El Paso County Sportspark?

Some of those surveyed said they witnessed negative or inappropriate behavior due to alcohol consumption at the facility.

On Monday September 11th we will be presenting the results of the Sportspark access to alcohol survey. Please join us in advocating for the banning of alcohol at the Sportspark!

Location: Commissioners Court Chambers, El Paso County Courthouse 500 East San Antonio Room 303 El Paso, Texas 79901

We are very thankful for your support in helping us conduct the SportsPark survey on the serving of alcohol at the park. We were able to reach a total of 902 responses.

According to the results 64% of people agreed that is not a good idea to serve alcohol at the SportsPark.

We will be sharing the results with the County Commissioners on Monday, September 11th. This is a great opportunity to advocate for family friendly environments that contribute to reductions in underage drinking, binge drinking, and associated harms. We hope that you can join us at the meeting and if you are interested in speaking in favor of banning alcohol at the park, let us know so that we can coordinate a meeting next week to discuss talking points.
