ATTENTION IRON SOLDIERS!!

The deadline for the Blended Retirement System (BRS) is quickly approaching!!

Sgt. Maj. of the Army Daniel Dailey has an important message about the benefits of BRS. Soldiers who dont' serve a full 20-year military career may find the BRS as a great option as they transition into a civilian career.

Update from our most recent BDE staff hail and farewell. You can see from our list of hails that we continue to strengthen the Ready Detachment team.

Hails: LT Lee (S1), LT Grout (S3), SFC Rosa (S3), SFC Lebron (S3), and CPT Tauane (S4)

As for the farewells, it's going to be tough to see these Iron Majors depart the Forerunner team. They worked their hides off to make the BDE successful, and they've earned the bigger and better jobs they're about to tackle.

Farewells: MAJ Drouin (BDE S3), MAJ Ga***rd (BDE XO)

MAJ Ga***rd was expecting a smaller plaque, but LT Lee wanted a heavy enough object to test his Crossfit skills. He broke a personal best, moving the frame 400m to his truck in 53.43 seconds then cooling down with 317 burpees (one for every day he's been an XO so far).

If anyone needs help getting their uniform straight, here's the crew to talk to! Our company supported the El Paso NorthEaster Parade this weekend with a color guard. Most of these Soldiers have supported multiple events in the past couple months, giving up their weekends to represent the Army, 1AD, 1st BDE, and of course the Forerunners for El Paso community events. Pictured from left to right: SSG Harris (S2), SFC Jackson (1SG), SSG Huguley (S3), SFC Kruskamp (S6), and SGT Barry (S3).

In case you missed it, we had a Sexual Harrassment and Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) stand down last Thursday (13 APR). SFC Wright (BDE SHARP) kicked off the event with a SHARP Awareness Walk for the Brigade and our family members. His is shown leading the charge in his "Ready First" baseball jersey. After the walk, the company conducted SHARP training complete with skits to emphasize the point. Our highly talented actors deserve honorable mention . . . SPC Yu (S3), SSG Harris (S2), SFC Hayden (S2), PFC Castro (CO HQ), SGT Lunsford (S3), and SSG Edwards (CO HQ).

We need help! Leilani (FRG Co-Leader) and SFC Hayden (S2) are doing an AMAZING job setting up our Monday motorpool fundraiser. We're going to sell breakfast items/snacks to our Soldiers on the morning of 17 APR at the company area. It's in part to raise awareness of the FRG, and in part to build funds for future events. Problem is, we only have two ladies to help, and one of them is Leilani. Is there anyone available from 0900-1200 (or even just a good portion of that time) on Monday morning who could come and help us manage the table and motivate our Soldiers as they turn wrenches in the motorpool? Thanks in advance.

Forerunner yoga was a success! Amber was a great instructor, and completed the atmosphere with a relaxing soundtrack. Some of us need more work than others, but the Salazars (MEDO) were the winners of Most Flexible Couple (yep, always a competition). The kids made use of the Japanese Garden as a playground to get away from the oddly contorted adults. The sign at the entrance said no playing in that area, so we classified it as enthusiastic meditation with Barbies . . . win-win. Any suggestions for round 2?

Payday activities today! It was great day to recognize several of our Soldiers. Here's the highlights:

PVT Grijalva (S3) earned a Certificate of Achievement for the cleanest barracks rooms at today's inspection. Talk about an immaculate room!

1LT Grout (S3), SSG Torres (Retention), and SSG Yancer (Retention) earned awards for their support to SFC Callum's (EO) HIGHLY successful Women's History Month Diversity Observance and 5k Run.

PFC Fulton earned his promotion to Specialist, and fought his man-of-few-words persona to extend thanks to his battle buddies in the company.

And SGT McCalmant (S3) received the Army Commendation Medal for his years of service as he prepares to transition to civilian life.

Special thanks to SGT Miller (PAO) for the awesome photos!

04/07/2017

Ms. Evelyn Watkins, the ACS Family Advocacy Program (FAP) educator who visited us at last Thursday's FRG meeting, came back out today to train us on domestic violence prevention. As we continue to build on the Army's Ready and Resilient Campaign, we want to make sure our Forerunners are prepared to fight abroad while keeping peace in their home. This training, conducted annually, is an opportunity for us to think hard about ways to prevent domestic violence among our Soldiers and Families. Evelyn's most notable message was that of communication. For spouses or friends reading this message, it's almost certain that you can recall an instance of last minute tasks or late work on the most inconvenient of days that resulted from a lack of communication from either your Soldier to you or from your Soldier's leaders/unit to him or her. We fight hard every day to give our company predictability, and we ask that our Forerunner families fight hard to have deliberate communication about Soldier's work requirements to mitigate the stress that can result. It is hard to carve out the time from a hectic work week and competing demands around the house, but this communication about upcoming Army requirements goes right along with healthy family discussions about finances, children, housing arrangements, and so forth. We all face challenges in communication and relationships, so don't forget all of the resources available to us. For one, FAP classes at ACS are a great way to better ourselves as a spouse (or dating partner), parent, or child. Other Soldiers are resources, too! Make sure you know your Soldier's leaders and contact information so you have another person to talk to when and if you need them. We can and will help you, and we want to help before the situation has the opportunity to escalate to irreversible physical or emotional harm. All of us deserve to feel safe in our own home. If anyone is having trouble finding that peace or sees indicators or threats of harm to them or their children please speak up.

04/07/2017

Don't forget, Forerunners, yoga tomorrow at the Japanese Garden on main post at 1000! Bring a yoga mat (or an Army issue sleeping mat if you're short on equipment). Towel and water source are optional. Kids are more than welcome to come run around in the grass, or have your Soldier watch 'em while you get an hour and a half of freedom. 1SG Jackson is more excited about the Dunkin Donuts coffee afterward, so bring some spare change to socialize if you have the time. We can't wait to see you there!

Two new additions to the Forerunner Team! CPL Oliphant (S1) shows off her little boy Aaden, and PFC Moipapalii (HQ) shows off her little girl Lelaleleiolemotusalaia (Valencia for those of us not as well-versed in Samoan names). These Ready and Resilient Soldiers are enjoying their maternity leave, making the most of the first few months with their little ones. We outfitted both babies with Forerunner t-shirts so they can show off their company pride during nap time, feeding time, tummy time, more nap time, and crying (hopefully not in the middle of the night) time.

The Forerunner family got to see the Villagran team in full force today at her promotion to CW2! LTC Hallberg reaffirmed the oath with her, and her sons switched out her shoulder boards. And of course, she made sure no attendee left the reception hungry!

We had a great meeting last Thursday night. Tracy and Evelyn from the ACS Family Advocacy Program stopped by to explain the services they provide - an extensive list including regular (free!) date nights, parenting classes for every age, anger management training, and outreach services for domestic violence victims. Our budding young Picassos did a great job decorating eggs, too! Glitter was the most popular medium, giving all of our furniture and carpet a gentle shimmer uncommon to most military conference rooms.

04/03/2017

LOCATION CHANGE FOR YOGA! We'll meet up at the same time on Saturday at the Japanese Garden on main post (off of Sheridan Rd, near the library and NCO Academy). There's no playground at the new site, but there will be plenty of room for kids to run around, play ball, etc.

03/28/2017

Send your best wishes to CPL Hartl (S2) as he transitions back to Florida and civilian life! We caught him for a photo after he received his award and expressed thanks to several Soldiers in the company. On a related note, pictures are no longer authorized prior to 0700 hrs in order to avoid dazed and confused looks on subjects' faces.

We're all cheering on SGT Kim from the S8 section as he competes in the Brigade Best Warrior Competition. 1SG Jackson caught some photos of him in action donning protective gear and evaluating a casualty for the Warrior Task testing.
