“Deputy Peter J. Herrera was not only a son, brother, husband, and father, he was really a great man who was looked up to by many. He was the kind of person that you would hope all your officers, all your deputies would be. We have suffered a tremendous loss, not just his family, but each and every member of this agency and the community as a whole.” – Sheriff Richard D. Wiles

Deputy Herrera was 35 years old when he was called by our Savior on Sunday, March 24, 2019. He was an 11 year veteran with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. He joined the office in 2008 as a Detention Officer, while assigned to the Detention Bureau he served as a member of the Special Response Team from 2009 - 2012. In 2013 he was appointed as a Deputy Sheriff and was assigned to the Clint Patrol Station. In 2017, he was awarded Deputy of the 1st Quarter for the Clint Patrol Station for his dedicated service to this community.
