Looking for an ooky spooky art project for the kiddos this weekend? Spiders may cause you to jump or reach for a chancla, but most are harmless. Spiders are nature’s pest control, and they have some pretty neat tricks up their eight sleeves. They produce silk, which is 98% water, to capture prey and water. Some spiders get the water they need by changing their silk to collect water from the air. Adaptations like this are important to surviving in the desert. The water we drink doesn’t come from a web; it comes from the Rio Grande River and underground, but there are lots of ways that we can be water-wise too. Keep your shower under 5 minutes, and turn off the faucet when brushing your teeth. Materials: Pipe cleaners Scissors Small poms Googly eyes Hot glue gun (or craft glue) 1. Choose 5 lengths of pipe cleaner, 1 small pom-pom, and 1 large pom-pom. 2. Bend 1 pipe cleaner in half, and twist the other 4 around it to create legs. 3. Hot-glue: the pom-poms to the center pipe-cleaner, and add eyes 4. Bend legs to allow the spider to stand
