Hey Team! I’m here with another weekly update.

I’d like to say thank you to everyone in USACAPOC, service members and civilians, for doing your part during these trying times. It’s because of you that our command is doing great despite the ongoing challenges.

Happy Easter, 410th!

As many of you try to celebrate, you may well be missing the time with your family, friends, and church. I know that my family and I sure are. As a Christian, in these days I am encouraged by remembering I celebrate a Savior who was made separate to save me.

For all of us, this is a great day to call our parents, children, or friends and keep up our relationships. If any of you would like to talk with me, even if you just need an ear that isn't someone you're stuck at home with, feel free to text or call me at (936) 615-6336.

The Change of Responsibility is an event rich with symbolism and heritage. The key to the ceremony is the passing of the unit’s colors. The very soul of a military unit is symbolized in the colors under which it fights, for they represent not only the lineage and honors of the unit, but also the loyalty and unity of its soldiers. At battalion level and higher, the Command Sergeant Major (CSM) of a unit serves as the senior enlisted advisor to the Commander and is charged with upholding standards, enforcing discipline, and and providing mentorship and advocacy for the Soldiers. One of the traditional, ceremonial roles of the CSM is to serve as custodian of the unit’s colors.

Command Sergeant Major Wayne E. Hattaway served as the 410th Civil Affairs Battalion Command Sergeant Major from 15 March 2017 to 29 February 2020. Today he passed our unit’s colors to the interim Command Sergeant Major, Master Sergeant Michael Corkrum. This demonstrated to the Soldiers of the 410th that CSM Hattaway has passed responsibility for the 410th Civil Affairs Battalion to MSG Corkrum, and with it the loyalty and unity of the Soldiers.

We are grateful to CSM Hattaway for his years of leadership and dedicated service, and wish him continued success in his new role as the 321st Civil Affairs Brigade Command Sergeant Major.

Warrior Tasks are individual Soldier skills deemed critical to Soldier survival; marksmanship is one of these essential skills.

The 410th worked diligently during Battle Assembly to provide primary marksmanship instruction and weapon familiarization, and today our battalion conducted both rifle and pistol qualification ranges.

Hey, folks—— would you just look at those mountains and that blue sky! It was a perfect day to be out on the range.

In the Civil Affairs field, one of our biggest strengths lies in the diversity and specialized skills our Soldiers bring to the mission.

He underwent extensive instruction in integrated law, physical conditioning, and firearms training. We would like to thank SGT Shaun Marshall and Mrs. Kimberly Franco for providing ACE+ T4T training to one of our full-time staff this week. This will allow us to provide the most up-to-date suicide prevention training to the soldiers of 410th during our upcoming Battle Assemblies!

Suicide continues to be one of the leading causes of death for military service members every year, and recent years have seen an increase in the number of suicide-related deaths. If you notice indicators that someone is struggling, there are a number of resources available to help. Military One Source is one such resource. You never know when reaching out could save a life.

One of Alpha Company’s CA Teams recently had the opportunity to conduct a civil engagement with Mr. Arlan Ponder, president-elect of the Board of Directors for the New Mexico School Boards Association (NMSBA).

The team learned a great deal about the New Mexico public education system, some of the challenges facing New Mexico’s schools, and how the NMSBA advocates for quality education and promotes diversity.

With Veteran’s Day approaching, we would like to extend to Mr. Ponder, a military veteran himself, our gratitude for his time and many thanks for his service to our country and to the children of New Mexico.

“Join the Army, they said! See the world, they said!” As luck would have it, that is the nature of the job as a Civil Affairs Specialist. In order to preserve foreign language proficiency, our soldiers have the opportunity to travel the world and participate in language immersions.

SGT Todaro recently completed an intensive Advanced Arabic immersion in Morocco, stopping in Paris on the way and traveling to various cities such as Rabat, Chefchaouen, Marrakech, and the famous Akchour waterfalls!

Are you interested in supporting missions to bring stability to foreign nations? Are you transitioning from active duty, a current Reservist looking for an exciting new career field, or considering a return from the IRR?

The 410th CA BN is always looking for high-speed enlisted soldiers and officers to join our efforts. For more information, please contact our Army Reserve Career Counselor, SSG Mark Richards, at (580) 284-6016. Texts or calls welcome!

Do you love learning about different cultures and have an affinity for languages? The Command Language Program is alive and well in the 410th Civil Affairs Battalion!

Our own SSG Ortiz completed a three-week Spanish immersion course in Costa Rica, visiting sites such as the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles and the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica while familiarizing himself with the local dialect.

Many opportunities such as this are available every year to our qualified Civil Affairs Soldiers!

Hello 410th CA BN, On 10/21/2017, I will be joining others who have a shared determination to free the world from the pain and suffering of breast cancer by participating in the Making Strides of El Paso. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the largest breast cancer fundraiser in the world. Donations raised will enable the American Cancer Society, the leader in groundbreaking breast cancer research, to provide free, comprehensive information to those touched by breast cancer and help people take steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early, when it's most treatable. Your donation will help give patients the critical support they need by: •Providing free rides to and from treatment •Funding a 24/7 phone line that connects patients with vital information. •Allowing patients to stay in our Hope Lodge locations for free when their treatment is far from home. Please join me in supporting this important cause by donating now. There will be shirts for sale for 20 dollars. If you would like to purchase a shirt give us your name and your size. This will help us estimate how many shirts to order. No one with this disease should ever walk alone. Visit my fundraising page: http://mobileacs.org/2fG42z9 Thank you!
