TROOP LEADING PROCEDURES!

Apache Troop was in the Close Combat Tactical Trainer (CCTT) last week. While 2nd Platoon was refining their tactics in the simulator, 1st Platoon was building their proficiency in troop leading procedures and the operations order. The platoon leadership received a Troop level operations order and was given 48 hours for platoon planning. The platoon leader and platoon sergeant were evaluated on their order, their graphic overlays, and their platoon sand table rehearsal. The Bradley commanders were then separated with their graphics and a radio where they fought their plan through a series of injects presented by the troop commander and first sergeant. The injects presented to each Bradley commander consisted of war-fighting problem sets that forced the platoon to communicate and have common understanding in order to meet the commander’s intent. The commander and first sergeant evaluated the platoon’s responses to ensure they didn’t violate the fundamentals of reconnaissance and security.

AFTER ACTION REVIEW!

Today, Apache Troop conducted an after action review (AAR) on yesterday’s mounted recon mission. It is vital to our organization to identify what we did great on and what we need to improve before the next major training event. The focus of the AAR is broken down from troop leading procedures, 5-paragraph operations order, preparation, and execution. Leaders also gained understanding and proficiency in why and how we answer the commander’s information requirements. 1st Platoon did an outstanding job in conducting aggressive reconnaissance.

BUILDING PROFICIENCY: COMMUNICATION!

Last week during Deployment Readiness Reaction Field Operations, Apache Troop found the time to learn about our troop communication capabilities. CPL Deanna Hemphill, Troop communications rep, led a class on how to utilize a Simple Key Loader (SKL), put an SINCGARS radio into operation, antenna capabilities, and place an OE-254 into operation. Training provided our Headquarters, 1st Platoon, and 2nd Platoon a block of instruction, hands on training, and evaluation. After training, Headquarters and 2nd Platoon gained proficiency by conducting a completion of two teams to put an OE-254 into operation and conduct a comms check.

Commander and First Sergeant are extremely proud of the troop for taking advantage of training opportunities and thank you CPL Hemphill for facilitating the training.

INDIVIDUAL AND CREW SERVED WEAPON QUALIFICATION!

Two weeks ago, Apache Troop facilitated Individual and Crew Served Weapons Qualification ranges consisting of M2, M240, M249, MK19, and M320 weapon systems. Leaders in Apache Troop coached, mentored, and motivated over 140 firers in the brigade to qualify on their assigned weapon system. Firers received a thorough Preliminary Marksmanship Instruction, learned how to manipulate various optics and lasers, and gained confidence to acquire and engage targets. Apache did an outstanding job ensuring they were prepared for an effective and efficient execution by following the 8-step training model.

Troop Commander and First Sergeant are extremely proud of all the Soldiers that supported the ranges and their dedication to excellence!

NIGHT QUALIFICATION!

Before conducting night qualification Apache Troop conducted borelighting procedures with 1-35AR firers. The borelight is an accurate means of zeroing their laser aiming equipment to their weapon without the use of ammunition. Time and effort must be applied to ensure a precise zero. Firers gain confidence in their night vision devices and their zeroed laser to effectively engage targets.
