The last time a Bataan Memorial Death March was held at White Sands Missile Range, I was a Marcher, hoping that my boot selection would prevent me from being a patient at the MMU for a third year in a row. Four years and one global pandemic later, I witnessed, now from behind-the-scenes, 125 members of TX EMTF, BorderRAC, West Texas Medical Reserve Corps, American Red Cross, and all of our partner agencies return in full force to support BMDM Marchers at the finish line. Whether it was your first time supporting the March (like me), or your tenth time, I couldn’t have been prouder of everyone who united and served as One Team.

Alert: Extreme Wildfire Danger Today.

Extremely critical fire weather conditions are expected to be widespread along and west of the I-35 corridor including the Gainesville, Fort Worth, Wichita Falls, Abilene, Midland, San Angelo, Austin, San Antonio and Del Rio areas. An abundance of critically dry fuels and critical to extreme fire weather, including high wind speeds gusting to 40 mph and low humidity levels, will support wildfire ignitions today. Any fires that ignite under these conditions will be difficult to control. Evacuations have been common.

A Southern Plains Wildfire Outbreak may develop under these conditions. Any wildfire that ignites in dry grass could move at a rate of 3-4 mph with flame lengths of 10-15 feet, which equates to flames the height of a one-story building burning the length of a football field in a minute.

Stay WILDFIRE ALERT today! If a wildfire is spotted, immediately contact local authorities. A quick response can help save lives and property.

We’re all eager to get back and support this most illustrious event. However, it just wasn’t in the cards, as I’m sure most everyone who follows this page has been affected in some way by the COVID-induced staffing crunch in our hospitals and EMS agencies.

The live, in-person event for the Bataan Memorial Death March has been officially canceled. Take care of yourselves, your loved ones, and your patients; we’ll regroup again next year.

Marchers,

Please read the attached announcement in regards to the 2022 in-person event. Due to the increased demand in real world support requirements to enable the on-going battle against the Covid-19 pandemic, it is necessary for us to transition the 2022 Bataan Memorial Death March to a virtual only event. If you are currently registered for the in-person event you will automatically receive a full refund. If you would like to register for the virtual event please visit bataanmarch.com. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to greeting you in-person in 2023.

As I find a moment to look back on a year like no other, I am nothing short of amazed at what Texas EMTF has been able to accomplish and what it has grown into in the course of only a year.

Whether it be in support of testing, patient transport, or direct patient care, nearly 1000 Texans from 140 different partners have answered the call to help fellow Texans in the fight against COVID.

The assets and MMU deployed to support the El Paso COIVD surge marked two historic achievements for EMTF: the first major deployment into the EMTF-9 region, which also set the record for the longest EMTF deployment.

And in case we thought the world would grind to a halt to allow us to handle the pandemic, 2020 produced a record-breaking hurricane season, multiple wildfires, and now a massive winter storm, that all required constant preparedness, posturing, and the occasional deployment; all while the pandemic ominously loomed over us all.

A year like no other was met by an organization like no other. The Great State of Texas remains indebted to those of you who have supported our operations this year and every year. I am incredibly humbled to be in the company of those I have met in the short four months I have spent in this position so far.

May you all enjoy a safe holiday season, and here's to a healthier and safer 2021 that moves the proverbial needle back to normal.

Texans Helping Texans! Thank you!!

Members of TX EMTF-6 are making their way to El Paso. This team, consisting of one of the region's ambuses and an ambulance strike team, will be assisting in the El Paso area's COVID-19 response.

Thank you to our partners at Houston Fire Department, Cy-Fair Fire Department, Humble Fire Rescue, Chambers County EMS, and Windsor EMS, Inc.. for helping our fellow Texans. We would also like to thank the folks at Buc-ee's (Katy) for allowing the team to gather at their parking lot before departing for west Texas.

Stay safe everyone!

Our Partners in healthcare working diligently for our community!

Due to the recent spike in COVID-19 positive cases and deaths, I contacted Governor Abbott last Friday, May 8th, for assistance with more testing capacity and hot-spot epidemiology analysis.

Following agreements:
-A Surge Response Team to El Paso to assist with more testing.
-The mobile testing teams arrived the next day (Saturday, May 9th) and began working with the Office of Emergency Management to open four testing sites- which became operational on Monday, May 10th.
-The State Chain Strike Force will make sure we have the hospital rooms and ventilators we need, should we experience a significant increase in positive cases.
-A State Epidemiology Team will assist Dr. Ocaranza with hot spot analysis in order to address outbreaks.

I’m grateful for his support to El Paso.

This year 196 people from all across Texas and Southern New Mexico were ready to join Texas EMTF in support of Bataan Memorial Death March 2020. Thank you to all who registered through Eventbrite to support this great event. This year's march was understandably canceled, out of an abundance of caution. We look forward to once again supporting WSMR, our Veterans and Wounded Warriors in the future. A special thanks to: EMTF 1, 2, 4, 7 and 9, American Red Cross, Elite Medical Transport, Texas Rescue Patrol, Marathon, West Texas MRC, Proaction, Revive, Life EMS Academy, Texas Tech, BorderRAC, Panhandle Rac, BRAC, Texas J RAC, Concho Valley Rac, Heart of Texas RAC, NCTTRAC, and so many others were registered and ready to go. My sincerest thanks and I hope to see you at the next Bataan.

02/17/2020

I am excited Bataan Memorial Death March is less than a month away! We are still recruiting Physicians, RNs, EMTs and logistical folks. This is a great opportunity to give back to our honorable veterans who have served and continue to serve. Last year we had snow on our tents for the first time!
This year will bring new challenges, Sunday March 15th 8 am to 9 pm.

We could still use extra hands for setup, Friday March 13th 9 am to 4 pm and/or tear down, Monday March 16th 9 am to 3 pm.

Contact EMTF 9 Coordinator Martin Dominguez, [email protected] call or text 915-355-8735 for any questions.

Sincere thanks to those who already signed up and continue to support this amazing event each year! Texas EMTF relies on help from our regional partners. I hope to see there!
