This morning, the EPFD Training Academy staff climbed the burn tower twenty-two times in honor of the 343 firefighters lost on September 11.

On that day, FDNY personnel went up 110 stories of the World Trade Center to provide assistance. For most of them, that was the last time they were seen alive.

Today, we stop to honor their sacrifice. We will never forget.

Don't forget to join us tomorrow at 9:00AM for our memorial ceremony live stream, here at the EPFD Facebook account.

Nineteen years ago, our nation suffered the single deadliest terrorist attack in human history when four planes were hijacked. Two planes were flown into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon, and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville, PA. A total of 2,977 people lost their lives, among them 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers. It was the single deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of the United States. Nineteen years ago, we promised we would never forget.

On Friday, September 11, 2020, the El Paso Fire Department is hosting a ceremony to honor the victims of 9/11. This year’s ceremony will not be public due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony will be live-streamed via the El Paso Fire Department’s Facebook account: facebook.com/elpasofire. The Livestream will begin at 9:00 AM.

The community is invited to join us in honoring our commitment to remembering our heroes of September 11 by tuning into our stream and by sending us photos of your tributes via social media. Throughout the day, the EPFD will select and share some of the received images.
