Yesterday, the EPFD proudly welcomed Rescue 3 with the traditional wet-down ceremony.

The ceremony took place at Fire Station 3 located at 721 E. Rio Grande in central El Paso. The event was open to the public and those who attended had the chance to participate in the wet-down.

A wet-down ceremony is a tradition across the country in which new units are sprayed down, hand dried, and then pushed into the station. This tradition dates back to the 1800s when departments used horses to pull fire trucks to fires. After fighting the fire, the crews would then wash and ready the horses and the apparatus in preparation for the next call.

A wet-down ceremony will be held at Fire Station 5 on Revere St. next Saturday, April 9 at 11 AM. Join us in welcoming Rescue 5!

Today, after 30 years of service to the community, Assistant Fire Chief Kebschull is completing his last day with the Department. This morning, the flag from Fire Station 4, his last station, was presented to him and a small ceremony was held at Fire Logistics where the team and the Fire Chief presented him a pair of plaques honoring his service.

Throughout his career with the EPFD, Chief Kebschull performed in a variety of functions, from emergency to logistical operations and administration. **EPFD Trainee Spotlight**
Who says there aren't any women in the fire service? Meet trainee J. Morales, she is the only female to join #EPFDClass100. After graduating from Del Valle High School, she went on to get her Associate’s Degree at El Paso Community College. Her fellow classmates see her as a sister and describe her as smart, dedicated and compassionate. Helping others and making a difference in someone’s life are reasons why trainee Morales decided to pursue a career with the El Paso Fire Department. She looks forward to learning the skills necessary in order to get the job done right. In her downtime, she loves to cook— in particular green chicken enchiladas. Her advice for anyone hoping to join the fire academy? Don’t let the fear of not knowing stop you from doing what you want to do; anything is possible with hard work and dedication. It is a privilege to have you with us, trainee J. Morales.

It is with a heavy heart that we inform of the passing of Lieutenant Hector P. Carpio.

Lieutenant Hector P. Carpio passed away on March 5, 2022 at the age of 85 with his wife of 45 years by his side.

Lieutenant Carpio was a 30-year veteran of the El Paso Fire Department, beginning his career January 17, 1962 at Station 4 and ending it at Station 18 on May 10, 1992. He always considered himself the luckiest man to serve the community of El Paso with his fellow brothers and always missed it greatly. He was an avid runner and like keeping fit. He loved helping his community, his friends, and his family. He was a loving husband and a wonderful father.

The family would like to acknowledge the crews at Station 26 and the staff at the Oasis Nursing/Rehabilitation Center for their services.

Services will be held at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas located at 9521 North Loop Dr. between the hours of 12-4 on Saturday March 19th. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to either of the following, in his honor:

My uncle, Jose “Joe” Scott served in the fire dept till he passed, my son trained with Kip Hall, I have always treated the firemen with respect and honor, so it’s quite sad when I called because I was feeling badly and the Lt. that showed up only wanted to know if I wasn’t going to the hospital WHY did I call?? I’m get it, it was 2 am and I should have just not asked for help but then I remembered that as a first responder it’s our duty, I’m retired law enforcement, so the sting was that much more.
I wanted to send out a heart felt thank you to Lt. Franco and the paramedics who took care of me on Saturday afternoon. I was involved in a Pitbull attack of my two dogs at Montana Agave Apts. The dog hit me from behind pushing me to the ground and splitting open my nose. Thank you all again for all your help. God bless you all and thank you for your service.
