Sapper Steel,

Thank you to everyone who had a role in the Annual Burning of the Colors ceremony last evening. This somber event was a little different this year due to the COVID restrictions and safety measures that are in place on Fort Bliss. The members of the Second Engineer Association who were unable to attend this year were greatly missed. If you missed the event, the live stream can be viewed from prior posts on this page. See below for a few images from the ceremony.

Sapper Steel Family,

Yesterday the leadership of the Second Engineer Battalion conducted our annual Castle Crucible. This event tests our leaders both physically and mentally. This year looked a little different than those of years past, but nonetheless it was still a demanding event and those that participated are surely still sore today. We hope you enjoy these pictures from the event. Note that any pictures depicting injuries or wounds were purely simulated injuries for training purposes.

Tonight 2d Engineer Battalion will be reenacting the Burning of the Colors and honoring those Engineers that fought at Kunu-Ri during the Korean War. The ceremony will begin at 7:30 PM (19:30) MST; the link to the broadcast via Facebook Live will be available at 7:15 PM

The Battalion along with its enablers across the United States completed it’s NTC Rotation 21-02. Even though the Battalion was hit hard with COVID-19 Trace it proved to be a lethal Battalion that enabled the Brigade to fix, engage and destroy the enemy in the deep, close, and support area of the fight. The BN provided intelligence, communication, sustainability, survivability, counter-mobility, and mobility to the BDE. Job well done to all Command Teams, Leaders and Soldiers of the Sapper Steel Family.

Update to the third amended Fort Bliss Come to Work Safe, Live Safe order

*ANNOUNCEMENT* The amended come to work safe, live safe memo, in effect today, aligns Fort Bliss to the City of El Paso restrictions.

For those who like the 'bottom line up front':
The 3rd amendment from October 26th is still in effect, this memo rescinds and changes the October 16th guidance to include the following:

1) All personnel are to adhere to the local authority’s directives regarding essential activities, travel and facial coverings - here or elsewhere.
2) Adds Grandparents in the 'immediate family member' category for in-home visitors, it now includes Parents and siblings/in-laws.
3) specifications to fitness group size and sanitization and distance during exercise.

We are asking all to continue to do their part, remain vigilant, and protect yourselves and others from the threat of the virus AND thank you for all you do to help keep each other safe.

Announcement from the Commanding General of 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss, Maj. Gen. Sean C. Bernabe:

Over the last seven days, the El Paso area has reported record increases in COVID-19 cases. Yesterday marked the highest number of active cases and hospitalizations thus far. On Fort Bliss, we have also seen an increase in the number of cases over the last seven days—although our rate of increase has not been as steep as the rate in our neighboring communities.

Fort Bliss Garrison leaders, the 1st Armored Division Staff, and I have watched these trends closely. We have also conferred with the El Paso Mayor and local health officials. Yesterday, Mayor Dee Margo announced new health protection measures for El Paso. Given the current COVID trends on Fort Bliss, we will remain in-step with El Paso and adjust our posture on Fort Bliss, as well. The changes will ensure we protect the health of our Fort Bliss community while also supporting and remaining in synch with our El Paso neighbors.

Today, I signed the Second Amended Fort Bliss Come to Work Safe, Live Safe Order.

Here are a few key changes from the updated order:
(1) Private social gatherings, on-post or off-post, are permitted with a maximum of ten (10) people --provided social distancing measures are maintained. (Previously, we allowed gatherings up to 30 people).

(2) Door-to-door trick-or-treating (on-or-off post) is not authorized. However, units on Fort Bliss may conduct trunk-or-treat events within their respective areas—provided participants wear proper PPE and maintain social distancing. Units must maintain a by-name roster of participants to facilitate contact tracing.

Additionally, the Garrison Staff and I reviewed the current protective measures at facilities and services across Fort Bliss. In general, those facilities that are currently open will remain open at the current level of service. Managers and leaders will increase their inspections of these facilities to ensure compliance with directed protective measures. Gatherings at outdoor parks will be limited to ten (10) people. We will post new signs at these locations to inform community members of this change.

As a new member of the Fort Bliss Community, I have been impressed with the level of discipline, cooperation, and compliance by everyone. Thank you! If we all do our part, we will help flatten the curve—both on Fort Bliss and in the El Paso area.

My 1st active duty station was at Camp Castle with the 2nd Engineer Battalion (Co. C) and while there I wore the Belgian Fourragere. When I left there I was told that I had to take it off and leave it in Korea. Is this correct or should I have kept the fourragere either on my uniform or with me?

I'm happy to have found this page. I'm currently reading "The Second Engineer Combat Battlalion in the Korean War 1950-1953" written by Arden A. Rowley, Major (Ret.) in an effor to learn more about my great uncle Capt. Joseph Dean Cox who was killed at Kunu-Ri on 30 Nov 1950. I myself was a Crash Fire Rescueman in the Air Force for 10 years Oct 91 - Mar 02.
Just announced by DA that the 3rd BCT, 1AD is rotating to Korea. With 2E one of the BCT's battalions, looks like 2E is returning to Korea, the site of some of the battalion's greatest heroics. Congratulates,
