This one stung, a lot. I got the news as I was on the tarmac just about to takeoff for London. I received a twitter notification on my phone, but I couldn’t register it, so I had to keep looking at it over and over. Tears flowed on the plane and I’m pretty sure the passengers around me assumed I had just lost someone close to me. The thing is we all lost something on Friday. All of us have poured our hearts and souls into this campaign because we believe that Beto is the special leader our country needs right now. And in just a tweet, all our excitement, determination, and hope for a Beto presidency was sniffed out.
However, as painful as this news was, we gained much more than we lost during this campaign. We gained friendship, self-confidence, the belief we can change things, the ability to stand up for what we believe in and fight for it. As an introvert, I had never canvassed for anything in my life, but for Beto, Hell Yes! I literally spoke with thousands of voters about Beto. I have always been political, but not until Beto did I get up off the couch and into the streets and on social media. We went everywhere and engaged everyone.
Over the last few days walking through London, I came across statues, plaques and memorials to Winston Churchill. Not only do I sense some similarities between the two, but I was reminded of this quote, “Failure is not fatal, Success is not final, it’s the Courage to continue that counts.”
So continue we will. I’m not sure what the future holds for Beto, but I guarantee he will be back for Everyone. And you Beto believe we will be back for him.
Here are some of my favorite photos from the last few days and earlier on.
Cheers,
