Deborah Hamlyn’s outstanding journey began in 1974, when she held various progressively successful planning and grant positions within the City of El Paso Municipal government. She was the first female department head in the City of El Paso. Then In 2005, Deborah Hamlyn became Deputy City Manager (DCM), hired by Joyce Wilson, El Paso's first City Manager.

Over the last 10 years Hamlyn has also served as Acting Executive Director for the Downtown Management District (DMD), joined the Temple Mount Sinai (TMS) Board of Trustees, and serves on the El Paso Pro Musica Board of Directors.

Deborah Hamlyn also served on our Board of Directors and ultimately became the Chair of the Board after several years as a board member. She was an instrumental figure in the Rebuild Hope Capital Campaign to rebuild our emergency shelter into a state of the art facility for survivors.

On May 20th 2021, the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence (CASFV) will host a virtual gala honoring women leaders Deborah Hamlyn and Gloria Salazar. Proceeds from the event will support CASFV's mission to provide empathy, acceptance and empowerment to survivors of sexual and family violence. Get your tickets:

Wear Denim Tomorrow!

Denim Day grew out of a 1998 Italian Supreme Court decision that overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore tight jeans. Even today, survivors all over the world are being blamed for their sexual assault. As advocates, we stand for empathy, acceptance and empowerment. Survivors are never to blame for a sexual assault. Period.

Consent starts with three words, "Is it ok?"

As we go into this weekend, and in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, let’s remember the importance of practicing consent and respecting boundaries everyday. Any sexual act that is coerced by pressure or guilt and any sexual act without consent is sexual violence.

It is as simple as asking, “Is it Okay?”

One year ago today, Fort Hood soldier, Vanessa Guillen went missing and became the face of the #MeToo movement for sexual assault in the military, which encouraged military members to share their sexual harassment and sexual assault experience(s) on social media. Today, we stand in solidarity with survivors. We invite everyone to listen to each other's voices and create a culture that supports reporting. Remember, if you need to speak to someone, you can call our 24-hr crisis Hopeline (915) 593-7300.
