Gunners recently were honored to be able to promote 1LT Thomas to the rank of CPT with his family. We also had to say farewell to CPT Thomas as he leaves the military to pursue a different career.
We also farewelled our BN S1 (CPT Warring) and BN S4 (CPT Seawolf) as they head to their respective career course.
The Gunner Battalion thanks each and every one of you for your hard work and efforts to best support all of the Soldiers in the Battalion. Your dedication and leadership will be missed!

Announcement from the Commanding General, 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss, Maj. Gen. Sean Bernabe:

Unfortunately, COVID infection rates in the El Paso area continue to increase. To protect the force and to remain in alignment with our city partners, I have directed additional measures for the Fort Bliss Community.

Effective immediately, Fort Bliss will operate at essential services only. We have closed Biggs Park, Underwood Golf Course, Bowling Center, Centennial Club, Soldiers Activity Center/Warrior Zone, and Tennis Courts. The Child Development Centers will operate at current levels; Fitness Centers, and lap swim at the Aquatic Center remain open, however, no instructor-led classes and no change to Army Community Service services. The main Exchange, Shoppettes, Military Clothing Sales, Commissary, Class VI, and Barbershops will remain open. Restaurants and Freedom Crossing will be limited to 25% capacity. All other retail stores will be closed.

William Beaumont Army Medical Center remains postured to provide medical support to the Fort Bliss installation and all eligible beneficiaries. We have taken prudent measures to maintain our ability to treat patients and ensure appropriate levels of supplies. These measures include cancellation and suspension of all elective procedures and realignment of assets to increase capacity at the main hospital.

The Health Protection Condition at Fort Bliss remains at Level Charlie. This means we continue to keep the following measures: social distancing, reducing exposure and personal contact, washing hands regularly, and wearing face masks.

These collective restrictions keep us in-step with El Paso City Officials so that we are good neighbors. These measures are in place to protect the force and balance readiness requirements.

We are disappointed to announce that the final two nights of the Spooktacular have been cancelled. We will service 500 cars tonight but that is all. This decision was made to align ourselves with the city’s recent two week shut down. We hope everyone is able to have a Happy Halloween safely at home with your families. Fort Bliss, Texas

***UPDATE***

Gunner Family and Friends, as disappointing as it is and due to increased risk of COVID-19 within the community, we will have to cancel the Battalions Trunk or Treat Event.

The only authorized Trunk or Treat event will be hosted by the USO on post.

READY 6 SENDS

READY FIRST
The purpose and intent of this updated policy is to REDUCE EXPOSURE of our Soldiers, Families, and Communities to infection.

Key highlights are as follows:

- Policy applies to all members of the RFCT and adds specified Brigade guidance.
- Policy is punitive with regards to all RFCT Soldiers.
- Soldiers are prohibited from sharing cups/canteens, vapes, or any other personal item or utensil.
- C/B/T formations for duty and physical training will be socially distanced in a manner that allows personnel to maintain a space interval of 6 feet at all times.
- Masks will be worn for all physical training activities except cardiovascular running and foot marches. Sprints, strength training, and calisthenics all require masks to be worn. Units will not conduct runs or foot marches above the squad level as a mass formation.
- (Recommended Practice – with flexibility for BN/SQDN CDRs to be more restrictive) As a general rule, Soldiers and Families should minimize their exposure with the local populace in El Paso and with other service members that are not in their unit.
- Authorization of BN/SQDN CDRs to institute split shift operations to prevent congregating in large groups (services, SSA operations).
- Restriction from dining in at any off post establishment. Soldiers may order carry-out from off post restaurants.

10/17/2020

An announcement from the 1st Armored Division CG.

Announcement from the Commanding General of 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss, Maj. Gen. Sean C. Bernabe:

Over the last seven days, the El Paso area has reported record increases in COVID-19 cases. Yesterday marked the highest number of active cases and hospitalizations thus far. On Fort Bliss, we have also seen an increase in the number of cases over the last seven days—although our rate of increase has not been as steep as the rate in our neighboring communities.

Fort Bliss Garrison leaders, the 1st Armored Division Staff, and I have watched these trends closely. We have also conferred with the El Paso Mayor and local health officials. Yesterday, Mayor Dee Margo announced new health protection measures for El Paso. Given the current COVID trends on Fort Bliss, we will remain in-step with El Paso and adjust our posture on Fort Bliss, as well. The changes will ensure we protect the health of our Fort Bliss community while also supporting and remaining in synch with our El Paso neighbors.

Today, I signed the Second Amended Fort Bliss Come to Work Safe, Live Safe Order.

Here are a few key changes from the updated order:
(1) Private social gatherings, on-post or off-post, are permitted with a maximum of ten (10) people --provided social distancing measures are maintained. (Previously, we allowed gatherings up to 30 people).

(2) Door-to-door trick-or-treating (on-or-off post) is not authorized. However, units on Fort Bliss may conduct trunk-or-treat events within their respective areas—provided participants wear proper PPE and maintain social distancing. Units must maintain a by-name roster of participants to facilitate contact tracing.

Additionally, the Garrison Staff and I reviewed the current protective measures at facilities and services across Fort Bliss. In general, those facilities that are currently open will remain open at the current level of service. Managers and leaders will increase their inspections of these facilities to ensure compliance with directed protective measures. Gatherings at outdoor parks will be limited to ten (10) people. We will post new signs at these locations to inform community members of this change.

As a new member of the Fort Bliss Community, I have been impressed with the level of discipline, cooperation, and compliance by everyone. Thank you! If we all do our part, we will help flatten the curve—both on Fort Bliss and in the El Paso area.

Last week the Gunner Battalion conducted a series of Deployment Readiness Exercises (DRE). These DREs tested each Battery's ability to alert, assemble, and deploy to the local training area with minimal notice.
Each units performance was admirable and stressed their internal systems. Every Soldier and Battery took away valuable lessons learned to help improve their readiness!

Maintenance - An integral part to keeping our fleet running. Late Friday afternoon an engine needed to be replaced in a BFIST, so mechanics from Iron Fox and Crew members from 6-1CAV worked diligently to put in the new engine. The Gunners treat all of their equipment with the utmost care regardless of if they are pacing items!
Great job to the entire team!
