El Paso County Sheriff Wiles: 'To say defund the Sheriff's Office, give me a break' - KVIA

Is anybody wondering what Commissioner Vince Perez thinks? Voters should know if he supports law enforcement before they vote in his run off in a couple weeks..

EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso County Sheriff Richard Wiles has some strong words after County Commissioners voted this week to re-examine his office's budget in the wake of highly publicized calls nationwide to defund police agencies. "You know you hear people calling defund law enforcement here in El P...

El Paso County commissioner calls for repurposing funds for EPCSO

The EPCSOA agrees with 99% of the resolution passed to honor Mr. George Floyd and condemn the tactics which resulted in his untimely death.
The problem we have is that Commissioner Stout seems to believe that elected officials, politicians, who have nothing to do with law enforcement, should be making decisions on how we should best do our job such as whether or not our Officer’s should be wearing protective gear during protests.
The decision as to whether to use tactical gear is a tactical decision, to be made by those leaders who are trained to make such decisions and in whom the front line officers place their trust. This decision is not one that should be made by elected officials who do not serve in a law enforcement capacity.
We all agree that what happened to Mr. Floyd is horrible. We all cringe at the sight of the video and stand in solidarity against such brutality.
The members of the EPCSOA are proud to serve the El Paso community as keepers of the peace for the Sheriff's Office. It is our duty and our privilege to protect and defend the Constitutional rights of our citizens to assemble and to make their voices heard.
It is also our duty to protect our community from crime. Sometimes it is just as difficult to decide when to use riot gear as it is to predict whether an assembled crowd will be peaceful or violent. In every situation, the safety of our community and the officers who protect it are our top priority.
Now this. . . defunding Police!?! El Paso, do you want to eliminate the institution of people that have bled and died in the name of your protection? it’s time to get involved! Let your voice be heard. Elected Officials work for you!

An El Paso County commissioner is calling for the El Paso County Sheriff's Office to be defunded. It comes after the unrest in the country over the death of George Floyd. Precinct 2 County Commissioner David Stout said after speaking with council members in Minneapolis he realized El Paso is not imm...
