April 30th is the Day of the Child! San Elizario Head Start celebrated the Day of the Child with a visit from Payaso Botoncito. The Day of the Child, also known as Diá de los Niños is a day dedicated to promoting the well-being, and happiness of children. The day also promotes the value and healthy habits of reading among all children.
McGruff the Crime Dog, an iconic symbol of crime prevention and public safety, visited the Cesar Chavez Head Start center. McGruff along with officers Morales and Mendez from the Mission Valley Regional Command gave lessons in safety, stranger danger, and more!

For Andrea Velasquez, who transitioned from Head Start to Kindergarten in 2010, her academic endeavor creates opportunities at the United States Naval Academy (USNA).
Below is Coral Valasquez' proud parent testimonial of her daughter's achievement.
"Hello! I am just writing this message to whom it may concern. My daughter Andrea Velazquez is a senior at El Paso High School. She was among 8 El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) seniors nominated by Congresswomen Veronica Escobar to attend the United States Naval Academy (USNA).
She has received her appointment at USNA. We are proud of her accomplishments. The Naval Academy is a prestigious military school with only an 8% acceptance rate.
Andrea is a 2010 Westside Head Start graduate. THANK YOU! to Head Start for the help and service you provide to our El Paso community's young kids!"

Tornillo Head Start center staff recruited eligible families at the community-wide Easter Egg Hunt held on March 25 at Coyote Park.

The playground upgrades not only encourages physical activity and gross motor skill development, but also provides opportunities for imaginative and social play. Meet Miguel and Katelyn, proud teen parents of 6-month-old Mateo. Both parents are involved in young Mateo's education and regularly volunteer at their Head Start center. Miguel currently serves as Sergeant at Arms for his Head Start center's parent committee.
Supporting teen parents is crucial to ensure that they and their children have access to the resources and help they need to thrive. Teen parent families face multiple risks, risks that may be substantially different from those faced by older parents with children.
To support teen parent families, it's important to provide access to resources such as parenting classes, childcare, healthcare services, and education and job training.
ESC19 Head Start supports teen parents by helping them provide a safe and loving home for their children while also promoting their own long-term success.
The secret of getting ahead is getting started now! The Early Childhood Education Forum presented by Early Matters El Paso on Saturday, March 25 was held at the ESC19 Head Start Multi-Purpose center. Parents and Early Childhood Education professionals attended the event which featured a panel discussion, and opportunities to explore a wide range of services at the community resource fair.
