Good afternoon Bulldogs!
There has been a question concerning MPLP (Parental Leave) for our deployed Soldiers. Please reference the attached policy letter that delineates what is allowed for folks who are expecting. A few additional notes:

Yes – Soldiers can absolutely take 3 weeks of their MPLP during the deployment. They will be allowed to take the remaining portion of their leave (up to 9 weeks) upon their return from EUCOM following the deployment.

Yes – the 3 weeks is extendable predicated on extenuating medical conditions. This will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. It is important for the SM to communicate through the Home Station Mission Command team and their chain of command so we have a clear picture of what is happening, and can take appropriate steps to take care of our folks.

There has been some concern WRT when folks can take their leave (when would they be allowed to start). Soldiers can coordinate with their chain of command concerning when they want to take MPLP. There is certainly some risk associated with pregnancy and timing – when my wife and I had twins, they decided to arrive nearly 6 weeks early – I totally get that sometimes babies have their own timeline! This should be a discussion between a SM, their spouse, and their chain of command. I would recommend purchasing tickets with insurance that can be adjusted should conditions dictate that the baby is coming earlier than anticipated. When that happens, the leave can be adjusted as well. I take the ability to get our Soldiers home very seriously and will endeavor to move them out of Europe and home for the birth as fast as possible.

There has been concern about cost of tickets – totally a valid concern. Unfortunately, the government isn’t allowed to purchase tickets for this reason, however, AER has loans and grants that can help defray the cost of travel expenses. For a loan – the SM can spread the cost over several months. In the event of a grant, the money isn’t required to paid back.

I hope that helps allay some concerns. As always, if you have a specific case you’d like to discuss, then you’re more than welcome to raise your concern through the chain of command, or reach out to me directly via the Ask BD6 QR code, or messaging the unit social media pages directly. Thanks for all you do!

🔔BULLDOG OF THE WEEK🔔

This weeks Bulldog of the Week is SPC Hussein from 2 BEB. SPC Hussein completed the Castle Crucibe, a 27-mile foot march, in 6 hours and 13 minutes, winning 1st place out of 121 participants!

The Castle Crucible is an annual event that coincides with the anniversary for 2 BEB burning their unit colors during the battle of Kuni-Ri during the Korean War. The 27 miles were conducted in a period of darkness, through mud and cobble stone. His persistence is truely awe inspiring. Well done!
