Veterans Day is a celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

A special thank you to the women and men currently serving at Ft. Bliss, those that chose El Paso to be their forever home after serving the Armed Forces, and 9-1-1 telecommunicators and first responders that served. 🇺🇸 📣

Did you know? Texas was the FIRST state to reclassify its 9-1-1 Telecommunicators and include them as First Responders alongside peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel. Before HB 1090, which took effect September 1, 2019, 9-1-1 telecommunicators were classified as secretaries!

Today, we honor all First Responders for serving our community every day. We extend a special congratulations to the FIRST, First Responders (Telecommunicators), for celebrating your second-ever National First Responders Day! Thank you!

"This Patriot Day, we commemorate the lives of those who perished on September 11, 2001, we pray for the families who carry on their legacies, and we honor the unmatched bravery of our Nation’s first responders. We also commend those who, in the days and years following the attack, answered the call to serve our country and continue to risk their lives in defense of the matchless blessings of freedom.

By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89), the Congress designated September 11 of each year as “Patriot Day.”

Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. This year, the El Paso County 911 District is especially thankful for Essential Workers, beginning with our forever favorite Essential Workers, 911 Telecommunicators.

911 never closes.

According to the U..S Department of Homeland Security, essential workers are those who conduct a range of operations and services that are typically essential to continue critical infrastructure operations.

Thank you to all workers, and especially to those that couldn't stay home.

09/02/2020

National Preparedness Month is recognized each September as a way to promote family and community disaster and emergency planning. The El Paso Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Department of Public Health encourage residents to take time to prepare for potential emergencies at homes, at work, and in the community. Having a plan that includes where to go and how to communicate during disasters, building an emergency supply kit and learning lifesaving skills could help your family, friends, neighbors and employees during a disaster.

For more information about emergency and disaster preparedness for your family, visit www.readyelpaso.org and follow the Office of Emergency Management on Facebook and Twitter.

Even though it's saddening to say good-bye to the children, we are glad they are going to a more permanent environment. Many acquire several items during their stay and we try to send them off with a suitcase instead of plastic bags. WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you have a suitcase in good condition that you don't use or need, please consider donating it our Center as the children feel more pride putting their belongings in a suitcase instead of a trash bag.
