Today, El Segundo Fire Department had the incredible opportunity to sign the last beam for the LA Sparks’ new Sports Performance Center!

This project represents so much more than a new building, it’s an investment in our community, in the future of women’s sports, and in creating a place where athletes can train, grow, and inspire the next generation.

Our Fire Prevention Team has been working hard behind the scenes throughout this project, partnering with the construction team to help ensure the facility meets fire and life-safety codes every step of the way. Their dedication helps make sure this exciting new space will be not only innovative, but safe for the athletes, staff, and community who will use it for years to come.

We’re proud to play a small part in bringing this incredible project to life and can’t wait to see what’s ahead!

🌡️ Heat Advisory in Effect 🌡️

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory beginning Friday at 10:00 a.m. through Sunday at 8:00 p.m.

As temperatures rise, take steps to protect yourself and those around you:

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
Protect yourself with sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.
Check in on neighbors, especially older adults and anyone without air conditioning.

A few simple precautions can help keep our community safe. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and take care of one another.

The El Segundo Fire Department congratulates Fire Paramedic Jarrett Barker on successfully passing his 12 month probation. Over the past year, Jarrett has completed rigorous quarterly training, developed the skills needed to respond to any emergency, and demonstrated commitment to protecting the El Segundo community. Completing probation is an important milestone, and we’re proud to welcome him as a full member of the El Segundo Fire Department.

Today, we’re proud to recognize Firefighter Paul Carey on an incredible accomplishment, successfully completing a rigorous 14-month paramedic program while remaining on full-duty throughout the entire process.

Becoming a paramedic is one of the most demanding achievements in the fire service, requiring countless hours of classroom instruction, clinical rotations, field internships, and intensive hands-on training. Balancing those demands while continuing to work a full firefighter schedule is a testament to Paul’s dedication, perseverance, and commitment to serving our community.

Thanks to Paul’s hard work and successful completion of the program, Engine 31 is now staffed as a full Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic unit, providing the highest level of emergency medical care to our residents around the clock.
Congratulations, Paul, on this outstanding achievement and thank you for your commitment to excellence. Your dedication strengthens our department and helps ensure our community receives the best possible care when it matters most.

Congratulations to Firefighter Paramedic Khalid Abdelshife on being named the El Segundo Fire Department's 2025 Firefighter of the Year!

Khalid was recently honored by the El Segundo Rotary Club in recognition of his outstanding service, leadership, and dedication to our community. In addition to his commitment on emergency calls, Khalid plays a significant role in bringing our community together through events such as the El Segundo Rock & Run 5K and the annual Charity Hockey Game, helping strengthen the connection between the Fire Department and the residents we proudly serve.

A lifelong South Bay resident and El Segundo High School graduate, Khalid consistently demonstrates professionalism, teamwork, and a genuine commitment to serving others. His positive impact extends well beyond the fire station, making him a deserving recipient of this year's honor.

This is ONLY A TEST. No action is required.

The regional exercise helps emergency agencies:
✔️ Evaluate emergency alert systems
