Elbert County Emergency Services is currently hiring in our EMS and communications departments. Anyone interested in applying must be able to pass a background check.

AEMT or Paramedic must be currently licensed with the State of Georgia or South Carolina.

If applying for communications, high school diploma or GED is required. POST certification is a plus but is not required.

Applications can be picked up at 112 Mahoney Dr., Elberton, or you can e-mail your request for an application to [email protected].

The Elbert County Water Response and Rescue Team held its annual Family Day yesterday at Elbert County Emergency Services.

We are fortunate to have such a dedicated group of individuals who serve our community with professionalism, commitment, and heart. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event a success. Your hard work and support are greatly appreciated!

Personal from the National weather service in GSP office came a did a survey of the area. We appreciate them coming out on a holiday. EMA

[3:25PM 5/25] Our survey team found a brief EF-0 tornado on the northeast side of Elberton, GA near Ruckersville, GA from yesterday evening (5/24/2026). Max winds at 75 mph and width of 15 yards. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities with this tornado.

* Tornado Warning for...
North central Elbert County in northeastern Georgia...
Southeastern Hart County in northeastern Georgia...
Southwestern Anderson County in Upstate South Carolina...

* Until 900 PM EDT.

* At 824 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located 4 miles northeast of Elberton, or 4 miles west of
Russell State Park, moving northeast at 15 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* This dangerous thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of
north central Elbert, southeastern Hart and southwestern Anderson
Counties, including the following locations... Rock Branch and
Ruckersville.
