Eldon Fire & Rescue Department, Eldon IA Eldon,Iowa Fire & Rescue The fire station in Eldon houses two pumpers (401 & 402). A tanker (406) a brush truck (408). Three ATVs and a boat.

We also have a non-transport BLS rescue (414). We are funded funded by the City of Eldon through tax dollars & by donations

Members are not paid at all, they are totally volunteers. They spend their own money in gas to get to the station and at times miss work to go on calls. Their training is paid by the department so there is no cost to them for that. We have very well trained members.

Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

* AFFECTED AREA...Portions of southeastern Iowa.

* WIND...Sustained winds to 15 to 25 mph, with gusts of 30 to 35
mph.

* HUMIDITY...20% to 30%.

* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.

As volunteers, when the tones drop we never know if we will have 8 firefighters respond or 2.
Yesterday afternoon when Eldon, ORMICS, and Wapello County Sheriffs were called to a car accident we had 4 respond to the station. Knowing there was extrication needed, we knew we would need help. Agency Fire and Rescue was called for mutual aid and they responded with a full crew.
As we worked side by side with Agency to extricate the patient, it was decided we would want a helicopter. With both our crew and Agency fires crew busy we knew we would need more help to establish a landing zone.
We called on Wapello Rural and Wapello County Emergency Management Agency to help establish a landing zone for University of Iowa Aircare at Cardinal High school’s practice field.
With the help of these great partners this call was brought under control seamlessly. We are incredibly thankful for their assistance.
