π’ EMS Parent Update: STAAR Preliminary Scores & Summer School Information
State Assessment Preliminary Scores (STAAR) for EMS are expected to be released on May 29.
At that time, families of current 8th grade students who are being recommended for summer school will be notified directly by phone. These students are preparing to transition to high school in the 2026β2027 school year.
8th Grade Summer School Information
Summer school will be offered exclusively for 8th grade students through the middle school. This approach is designed to:
Support a smoother transition into high school
Minimize scheduling conflicts for the upcoming school year
All students who do not meet the STAAR passing standard are required by the state to complete 15β30 hours of targeted remediation per subject area (Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, and/or Social Studies).
7th grade and below: May complete required remediation during the school year through RTI/tutorials built into their daily schedule
8th grade: Are strongly encouraged to complete remediation during summer school
β
Completing required remediation during summer school may allow students to enroll in elective courses rather than being placed in an EOC Prep class during their freshman year.
