On January 26, 2026, at approximately 4:16 pm Elephant Butte Fire Rescue was dispatched to 20 Cozy Cove Road for reports of a possible RV fire at a single-family dwelling with someone trapped inside. The first arriving EBFD unit arrived on scene and reported heavy black smoke and a working fire at 20 Cozy Cove Road, space #26. The fire was brought under control within minutes of their arrival. Damage to the structure was mostly contained to the fire location inside the structure. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. EBFD located and rescued a cat inside the residence. The cause has not been determined at this time. No additional information is available at this time.

Elephant Butte Fire Rescue would like to give a special thank you to the Sierra County Sheriff's Department. They assisted with force entry and securing the utilities at this incident. Thank you for all you do for our communities!

Our condolences to the Rose Family and the community of Las Palomas. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Our condolences to the Rose Family and the community of Las Palomas. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Sandy Rose, a retired member of the Las Palomas Fire Department.

Sandy dedicated many years of service to this department and to the community we are proud to serve. Throughout her time with us, she gave selflessly, supported her fellow firefighters, and helped in countless ways both on and off the line.

Sandy’s experience, commitment, and willingness to help wherever she was needed left a lasting impact on the Las Palomas Fire Department and on those who had the honor of serving alongside her. Her contributions helped shape who we are today, and her presence will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to Sandy’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as we honor her life and her years of dedicated service.

Rest in peace, Sandy. You will always be a part of the Las Palomas Fire Department family.

Thank you never feels like enough when it comes to our dedicated and skilled first responders. Your unending dedication to your community and your career is something to be proud of. Elephant Butte Fire Department has several members cross into other first responder categories of service; nurse, EMS, dispatch, and police. We are proud to know them, to work with them, and be them. It continues to be an honor and a privilege to serve our community every day. Stay safe.
