Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is a community-based social services agency targeting the immigrant and low-income community.

Located in Elgin, IL - Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is a community-based social services agency targeting the low-income immigrant and refugee community. Originally formed by ethnic Chinese immigrants from Vietnam, the organization has grown to represent clients from a multitude of ethnicities, including immigrants from the Philippines, Burma, Ethiopia, and Russia. CMAA is particularly pr

oud of its diversity, as shown by its Board President being of Korean descent, and its Executive Director being a first generation immigrant from the Philippines. CMAA staff speak over twenty languages. CMAA Elgin offers services for the community spanning several generations. Adult education programs offer lessons in English proficiency, financial literacy and computer skills. Additionally, HEPP is also offered which is a bridge program of Adult Education and Workforce. CMAA is particularly proud of its senior services, including a robust homemaker service.

Chinese Mutual Aid Association proudly announces Rhea Yap as our new Executive Director, effective January 1, 2026.

After serving as Interim Executive Director since 2024 and as Director of Strategic Initiatives since 2021 Rhea’s leadership has helped strengthen partnerships, expand impact, and support the long-term health of CMAA.

We are grateful for her dedication to our community and look forward to this next chapter together. 💙

🎓 Elgin Adult Education Students Visit ECC!

On December 5th, our Elgin Adult Education staff took students on an exciting campus tour at Elgin Community College (ECC).

A big thank you to Elena Gardea, Adult Transitions Coordinator IV, for guiding us through the healthcare building and the culinary section. 🍳🏥

Students learned about valuable community resources and opportunities for education and career growth.

We were thrilled to participate in ECC’s Volunteer Fair on October 28th, where we connected with students and shared how they can make a meaningful impact in our local community!
