Jean Murray Bednar I have lived in Elgin for 30 years and raised two sons here, who went all thru U-46 schools and spent many hours at the Gail Borden Library. My husband and I have been active volunteers with the Gifford Park Association, Children's Theater of Elgin, United Way of Elgin, Illinois Historic Preservation, U-46, and of course, the library. I began as a library volunteer on the referendum committee to have the new library built. I then joined the GBPL Foundation, and was later appointed and then elected to the Board of Trustees. I have been on the board for nearly 14 years, with the last five as president.
I want to continue serving, listening, and supporting the staff in the important work they do. During my time on the board, the library district has grown to include three phenomenal buildings that are vibrant community-centered places, and now we have added a book bike and a bookmobile. The library's plans to reach out are just as important as its plans to branch out. This is my focus as I continue to serve as a trustee.
