Food For Greater Elgin

A guest-choice food pantry whose mission is to provide food security and access to community resources that stabilize lives.

Food for Greater Elgin is the largest pantry in Kane County and is one of the three largest food pantries in Northern Illinois Food Bank's 13-county service area.

We use a guest choice distribution model which offers guests a choice of food items rather than pre-bagged groceries. Guests, equipped with grocery carts, choose from a variety of product categories including shelf-stable, frozen mea

t, produce, and dairy, and they may shop once a week during one of five weekly food distributions, including evening shifts. Volunteers assist guests while they shop.

For every $1 donated to Food for Greater Elgin, approximately $8 worth of food can be purchased. Northern Illinois Food Bank is our main food resource, and we also "re-harvest" additional products at area grocery stores and warehouses.

Thank you to the students and Mrs. Megan Johnson Morado of Larkin High School for their unbelievable efforts and work on our Change for Hunger program! 💰

The Junior AVID classes formed 4 teams and raised over $1,800 for the FFGE Change for Hunger campaign through bake sales, hot chocolate sales, a Valentine photo booth, and a “Pie in the Face” teacher auction.

A huge thank you to longtime community partner Lucas Fawkes of Country Financial in Elgin for his donation, which helped bring the 2026 Larkin campaign total to an amazing $2,500!

Larkin High School has proudly supported Change for Hunger every year since 2012! Thank you to the students who work hard every day to make an impact in their community. 🫶🍎
