Food For Greater Elgin

Food For Greater Elgin A guest-choice food pantry whose mission is to provide food security and access to community resources that stabilize lives.

Food for Greater Elgin is the largest pantry in Kane County and is one of the three largest food pantries in Northern Illinois Food Bank's 13-county service area.

We use a guest choice distribution model which offers guests a choice of food items rather than pre-bagged groceries. Guests, equipped with grocery carts, choose from a variety of product categories including shelf-stable, frozen mea

t, produce, and dairy, and they may shop once a week during one of five weekly food distributions, including evening shifts. Volunteers assist guests while they shop.

For every $1 donated to Food for Greater Elgin, approximately $8 worth of food can be purchased. Northern Illinois Food Bank is our main food resource, and we also "re-harvest" additional products at area grocery stores and warehouses.

On September 12th, you can triple your contribution to help lessen food insecurity in our community by grabbing a $10 food donation card at the Elgin Meijer on Randall Rd. And if you do so, Meijer will double match it with $20 for a total of $30 to fight local hunger!

Have some documents that need shredded? We are hosting a FREE Shredding event on Sat., Sept. 12th, 9am - 11am. at the Gail Borden Public Libraryy, Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Rd. in Village of South Elgin.

There will also be a food drive to benefit Food For Greater Elgin. Please drop off your non-perishable and unexpired donations and we will deliver them. Your generosity is much appreciated. Hope to see you!

It’s time again to celebrate another one of our incredible volunteers…Kevin Wyne! 🎉

Kevin is our August Champion of the Month, and we couldn’t be more grateful to Kevin’s consistent dedication to our pantry and our guests.

Kevin was our very first volunteer driver and has been an incredible asset to our team. You can find him out and around town delivering food to houseless neighbors, assisting with pickups, and delivering boxes to our senior guests.

He has a genuine heart, cheerful attitude, and consistently serves our neighbors with grace and compassion. Thank you for all you do, Kevin! 🫶🍎
