Saluting the Silent Guardians: Volunteer Emergency Service Crews
When the sirens wail and the world feels uncertain, there are those who run toward danger while the rest of us seek safety. They are the volunteer emergency service crews—the heartbeat of our communities, the unsung heroes who choose courage over comfort.
Often giving up family dinners, sleep, and sometimes even their own security to protect communities. Standing in the face of fire, flood, and fear—not because they have to, but because they care. Their sacrifices are quiet, but their impact is immeasurable. Every life saved, every home protected, every moment of reassurance in chaos is a testament to their unwavering dedication.
They remind us that true heroism isn’t found in headlines—it’s found in the selfless acts of ordinary people who refuse to let others face danger alone. Today, I'd like honor and thank our fellow EMS volunteer crews in Union and Wallowa counties. And let’s never forget that behind every emergency response is a volunteer who chose to put your safety above their own.
To every volunteer responder: You are the light in the darkest hours. We as fellow volunteers see you, your equal sacrifices and we appreciate you and your collaboration with us. We are forever grateful for the brotherhood and sisterhood that binds us all together.
May you remain safe in the line of danger, remain calm in the midst of the storms and stay healthy so you may continue your heroism.
Thank you from our department to yours!
