“Juneteenth is both a celebration and a solemn reminder. We honor the resilience of those who endured slavery, the courage of those who fought for freedom, and the ongoing work required to make liberty real for everyone. Juneteenth is not just a commemoration of emancipation, it is also a public reminder that freedom in the United States was delayed and uneven, and that truth still needs defending now. In a moment when federal actions and rhetoric are being used to narrow how Black history is taught, Juneteenth becomes a direct counterweight by insisting on naming slavery, honoring Black resilience, and recognizing the allies who stood with us on this the long struggle for equality. Happy Juneteenth!” -Derek Mosley of Milwaukee, WI

Something exciting is happening in Barrington. 🎉

This past week, we had our first meeting at the new home of the Democratic Party of Illinois’ Organize Illinois 2026 team, Barrington Area Democrats, and Maria Peterson for Illinois House District 52.

This office will be more than four walls and a few desks. It will be a place where volunteers gather, conversations happen, neighbors connect, and the work of strengthening our community takes shape.

From voter outreach and community organizing to campaign planning and local action, this space will serve as a hub for people who believe that democracy works best when everyone gets involved.

We’re excited to officially open the doors and invite you to celebrate with us at our Office Opening Party on Saturday, June 6th at Noon. RSVP at https://www.mobilize.us/mariafor52/event/963799/ and we hope you’ll join us as we build momentum for 2026 together.

The future starts here. 💙

This past weekend, organizers, candidates, volunteers, precinct leaders, advocates, and community members gathered in Barrington for our fourth election “postmortem” to unpack what the 2026 primary told us about where we are and where we go next.

And honestly, while the national Democratic Party is busy releasing chaotic 192-page “autopsy” documents trying to explain 2024, what we’re building here feels very different.

This was not about finger-pointing or consultant theater.

It was about grassroots organizing. Local input. Real conversations. Precinct-level analysis. Voter turnout. Community relationships. Building the future of the Democratic Party from the bottom up instead of the top down.

For the people. By the people. Starting locally.

We talked turnout, messaging, Gen Z engagement, volunteer infrastructure, donor influence, campaign finance reform, ranked choice voting, and how we protect little d democracy while electing big D Democrats who will fight for affordability, families, infrastructure, sustainability, and future generations.

The energy in the room was hopeful, practical, collaborative, and honest.

That matters.

Because democracy is not something we watch happen. It is something we build together.

As we head toward November, we are growing voter outreach, trainings, volunteer operations, and turnout efforts across the Barrington area and beyond.

If you want to help shape what comes next, now is the time to get involved.

This morning I joined members of Indivisible Barrington and the Barrington Area Democratic Organization to show support for workers before tomorrow's May Day.

We were there to stand up for livable wages, quality healthcare, and affordable housing- putting people over profits!
