The Elizabeth City Public Utilities Department’s Touch a Truck event was a great opportunity for our students to get a hands-on look at how things work in our community. The educational aspect was huge, giving students a better understanding of the important roles these departments play every day.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible, including the Elizabeth City Police Department, Fire Department, and EMS. Your time, support, and dedication made this a memorable experience for our students!

Our DLI students have been diving into a unit on cultural celebrations and exploring how different countries observe special traditions throughout the year 🌎✨

As part of this learning experience, they connected with a first-grade class in Colombia through a live video chat while discussing Valentine’s Day in the United States. Our students learned that while we celebrate Valentine’s Day in February, Colombia celebrates a similar holiday focused on friendship and love—Día del Amor y la Amistad—in September.

During the call, students participated in a meaningful cultural and linguistic exchange. They expanded their global awareness, built connections beyond our classroom, and practiced their Spanish speaking skills in an authentic, real-world context by interacting directly with their peers in Colombia.
