***ALC Spotlight***
Management/Program Analyst, AJ Bohn
FROM AJ:
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO ALC AND WHAT IS YOUR ROLE WITHIN ALC?
I’m from the area originally, so this place has always felt like home to me. After high school, I joined the Marines to gain aviation experience—it was something I’d always been passionate about. Long story short, I wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps. He was a big influence on me growing up, and seeing the work he did inspired me to pursue a similar path. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I’m proud to carry on his legacy.
WHAT ARE YOUR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES?
My primary role is to support the Engineering Officer (EO). Essentially, I’m the bridge between Engineering Officers, especially during transfer season, to make sure the transition is as smooth as possible. A big part of my job involves reviewing contracts to ensure all technical requirements are met. On behalf of the EO, I lead vendor visits and audits, which are critical for maintaining quality and compliance.
I am also responsible for building the budget, executing them, and ensuring we stay on track financially. Another key responsibility is working with contracting to execute purchase orders for engineering needs. It’s a dynamic role that requires attention to detail, collaboration, and a deep understanding of the technical and administrative sides of the operation.
CAN YOU HIGHLIGHT SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE PROJECTS YOU'VE WORKED ON DURING YOUR TIME HERE?
It’s hard to pick just one project because each one has been meaningful in its own way. If I had to choose, I’d say being involved in every model upgrade—from the A model to the E model of the HH-65, and now the MH-65—has been a career highlight. Watching the evolution of these aircraft and being part of that process has been incredibly rewarding.
I’ve truly enjoyed every stage of my career, from working in the composite shop to transitioning into a planner role and now contributing to engineering. Each step has taught me something new and helped me grow both personally and professionally.
WHAT DO YOU APPRECIATE MOST ABOUT WORKING FOR ALC?
Without a doubt, it’s the people. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some truly great individuals who’ve taught me so much over the years. Their knowledge, experience, and willingness to share have been invaluable to my growth. At the same time, I’ve also had the opportunity to pass on what I’ve learned and teach others, which has been incredibly rewarding. It’s that sense of collaboration and mutual respect that makes working for ALC so special.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE LOOKING TO PURSUE A SIMLAR CAREER PATH?
My biggest piece of advice is to listen and learn from the people who came before you. They’ve already walked the path, faced the challenges, and made the mistakes—and they can help you avoid those same pitfalls. Their experience is invaluable, so take advantage of it.
Also, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and volunteer for new opportunities. Whether it’s a project, a task, or a leadership role, those experiences will help you grow and develop in ways you might not expect. It’s all about staying open to learning and embracing challenges."
COULD YOU SHARE A FUN OR SURPRISING FACT ABOUT YOURSELF OR WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO MOST OUTSIDE OF WORK?
When I was in kindergarten, we had to give a presentation to the class about what we wanted to do when we grew up. My presentation was all about how I wanted to work at the Coast Guard base. It’s amazing to think that I’m now living that dream!
Outside of work, I love traveling with my wife and spending time with my children and grandson. Family time is so important to me. I also love spending time on the water—boating and saltwater fishing are my favorite ways to unwind. There’s something about being out on the water that’s very relaxing.
