🏈 A day to remember. A legacy to celebrate. A future to embrace.

The final score wasn’t what we hoped for, but today’s Legends Weekend home opener was about so much more than the scoreboard. 💙

We honored the champions who came before us, celebrating members of the legendary 1971 CIAA Championship football team and the legacy of Dr. Claudie J. Mackey. We celebrated the Viking spirit in the stands and on the field. And we came together to hear Dr. Palestrant perform the ECSU anthem of possibility, “We’re On Our Way,” live. 🎶

From our legends to our current Vikings, today was a powerful reminder: our past inspires us, our present unites us, and our future is ours to shape.

Thank you, Vikings, for showing up, showing out and making our first home game of the season one to remember. 💙

We’re on our way. And we’re just getting started.

Tonight’s Pep Rally brought the energy as we officially counted down to tomorrow’s home-opening football game! 🏈

From the incredible performances by The Sound of Class and the D’Lytes, to celebrating and welcoming our newly announced freshmen leaders, the Viking spirit was on full display.

And just when we thought the night couldn’t get any better… Fly Boi Keno pulled up for a surprise concert! 🎤🔥

✈️ ECSU’s aviation future is taking flight!

Elizabeth City State University is proud to welcome Titus Sanders as the inaugural Executive Director of the new School of Aviation.

A seasoned pilot, educator, military veteran and aviation workforce advocate, Sanders brings more than 20 years of aviation experience—including 4,000+ flight hours—to ECSU. Most recently, he led the Department of Aviation Science at Tuskegee University and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals.

As ECSU continues to expand its aviation footprint and prepare the next generation of aviation professionals, Sanders will help lead the School of Aviation toward new heights—strengthening opportunity, workforce development and economic impact across North Carolina and beyond.

Welcome to ECSU, Mr. Sanders! The future is cleared for takeoff. 🛫

ECSU Aviation Science major Yasmari Rodriguez-Cuevas has been selected as one of just 65 Americans for the prestigious 2026–27 Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) for Young Professionals Program! 🇺🇸🇩🇪

Over the next year, Yasmari will study in Germany, strengthen her German language skills, and complete a professional internship aligned with her career goals—all while building connections that span continents.

Her journey is a powerful example of what happens when Vikings are prepared to take flight beyond the classroom and into the world. ✈️🌎

A Seat at the Table. A Voice to Use It.

Four ECSU Vikings recently stepped into a statewide conversation about civic engagement, leadership and the power of young voices at the 12th Annual North Carolina Black Alliance Think Tank.

Representing ECSU, Jaharah Yahaya, Janiah Owens, Malachi Bass and Nyla Phillips connected with students and community leaders from across North Carolina, explored the legacy of HBCU leadership and civil rights organizing, and learned how to turn their influence into meaningful action.

Because at ECSU, we’re not just preparing students to become leaders—we’re empowering them to lead now. 💙
