Deborah Malenfant, director of Elizabeth City Downtown, updated the club on improvements to Pool Street Park and fountain and coming changes to Water Street, including narrowing it to two lanes from Main to Shepherd streets. She also showed pictures and schematics of improvements to Waterfront Park to accommodate ferry boats.

William "Chip" Lewin, vice chancellor for operations at ECSU, told the club Feb. 24 about the extensive construction and infrastructure projects underway on campus. They include replacing the Chancellor's residence on Parkview Drive, erecting a new dining hall and dormitory as well as replacing 70 underground water valves. Chip retired in 2023 as a USCG Captain and Commanding Officer at Air Station Elizabeth City. He is a member of the Friday morning Rotary Club.

Sandra Krueger, the Miles Clark Endowed Professor of Music at COA, spoke Feb. 3 about her project to capture the music of plants. Using a sophisticated voltmeter, Krueger detected faint musical notes from green plants, bamboo trees and rose bushes that students translated into music, drawings and essays. She plans to document the music of the woodlands along the Fenwick-Hollowell Trail behind COA.
