After a distinguished and multifaceted career spanning over a decade of dedicated service, Detective Dariusz Tokarz has retired from the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. Since joining the office in 2015, Detective Tokarz has been a cornerstone of both investigative excellence and technological innovation. His UCPO career took him from the Criminal Case Control Unit to the high-stakes world of the Guns, Gangs, Drugs & Violent Crimes Task Force, and eventually into the Cyber Crime Task Force. A true pioneer in digital forensics and electronic surveillance, Dariusz was instrumental in modernizing Union County’s law enforcement capabilities. He personally managed the Evidence.com platform, developed and oversaw the Body Worn Camera (BWC) program, and designed state-of-the-art AXON recording systems that transformed how evidence is captured and managed across the county. His technical expertise was matched only by his investigative resolve, having worked on over four thousand cases in the Domestic Violence Unit.
Beyond his technical and investigative expertise, Detective Tokarz’s legacy is defined by his profound humanity and commitment to the diverse community he served. Leveraging his fluency in Polish and his ability to communicate in several other Slavic languages, he served as a vital bridge for the migrant community and a key asset in complex translations for Homicide and Special Prosecutions. His compassion famously extended beyond the borders of New Jersey; in 2022, he coordinated a massive humanitarian effort that delivered 120,000 lbs. of aid to Ukrainian refugees, earning him the UCPO Recognition Award and the 2023 Unity Award for Special Achievement.
Whether he was instructing at the John H. Stamler Police Academy, assisting those struggling with dependency through the East Coast chapter of AA, or remaining on-call 24/7 to support his fellow officers, Dariusz embodied the very best of public service. As he hangs up his badge, we celebrate a career marked by cutting-edge progress, thousands of lives touched, and a relentless dedication to the safety and dignity of Union County.
Happy retirement, Detective Tokarz!
