UPDATE: New State Guidance on Dyed Diesel Relief

The Illinois Department of Revenue has issued new guidance on temporary dyed diesel penalty relief for farming and agricultural purposes in Illinois. If you're planning to use dyed diesel in on-road vehicles, it's important to understand the requirements, especially what records you need to keep to qualify for penalty relief.

🌽 Farm Fact Friday: Why do farmers harvest after dark?

Because the weather doesn’t always give you a second chance.

And let’s face it, Mother Nature has been keeping us on our toes lately. 😅

Moisture plays a big part in harvest. Morning dew can leave crops too damp to harvest, especially soybeans, so farmers may have to wait for things to dry out before they can get started.

By afternoon, conditions may finally be right. And with fewer hours of daylight this time of year, that can mean harvesting well after the sun goes down.

Throw some rain in the forecast and that window gets even smaller.

So if you see combine lights out in the fields after dark, there’s a good chance they’re taking advantage of the conditions while they can.

And as always during harvest, slow down and give farm equipment plenty of room on the road.
