Before the butter and salt, there’s a farmer. 🌽

As Galena 2026 gathers for tomorrow’s Bicentennial Corn Boil, we’re giving a little recognition to where it all begins—with someone planting, tending, and harvesting the food we enjoy.

Here in Jo Daviess County, agriculture is part of our everyday lives. It’s our neighbors, our family businesses, and the work happening down the road.

A community celebration built around sweet corn is a pretty fitting reminder of that connection. Here’s to the farmers who grow it and the neighbors who gather around it.

Thank you to the organizers and volunteers behind Galena’s Bicentennial Corn Boil for bringing our community together! 🌽

🥔 Catching up with our Farm Bureau neighbors and getting a closer look at potato farming! 🥔

Jo Daviess County Farm Bureau board members joined members from four other county Farm Bureaus today for the annual Illinois Farm Bureau district meeting—a chance to share what’s happening in each county, make connections, and learn from one another.

The day also included a tour of fellow Farm Bureau member Neumiller Farms near Savanna to learn about their operation.

Your next bag of Lay’s could have a local connection! Neumiller Farms supplies potatoes to Frito-Lay, with a family relationship that goes back more than 70 years.

Thank you to the Neumiller Farms for welcoming us and sharing your time and knowledge!

Nathan Koester represented Jo Daviess County Farm Bureau at the District 2 Young Leader Discussion Meet—and he is advancing to compete at the State Discussion Meet in December! Nathan is one of just three participants from our district moving on to the state competition.

The Discussion Meet gives young agricultural leaders a real-world issue and asks them to discuss it, exchange ideas and work toward a solution—similar to a Farm Bureau committee meeting.

Congratulations, Nathan, and thank you for representing Jo Daviess County! We’ll be cheering you on at State!

Jo Daviess County is continuing to consider a change to the county’s rural lot-size requirement.

At its July 14 meeting, the County Board voted to send the “40-acre rule” back to the Planning Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals for a public hearing. The hearing will consider changing the minimum lot size for a single-family dwelling in rural areas from 40 acres to 10 acres.

This issue may be of interest to Farm Bureau members, rural landowners and others following land-use decisions in Jo Daviess County.

Those who would like to learn more or provide public comment may attend in person or join through Zoom:
