⚽🌎 This summer, IRC in New Jersey welcomed 47 newcomer youth through our 2026 Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA). Students strengthened English language skills, developed classroom readiness, built friendships, and participated in social-emotional learning in a welcoming and supportive environment.

This year's World Cup theme celebrated diverse cultures while highlighting teamwork, inclusion, and community. From engaging classroom activities to field trips at iPlay America and Turtle Back Zoo students gained valuable experiences to help them succeed in the upcoming school year.

Rep. Rob Menendez joined by Constituent Services Liaison, Patrick Mosquera, visited the IRC New Jersey office last week to learn more about our work and the communities we serve. During his visit, he toured client service areas, observed a youth class in session, and met with direct service staff to discuss service gaps and community needs. He also met with Tina-Marie Lopez, M.P.A. Lopez, Executive Director for IRC New York and New Jersey and Cathy Motamed, MPH Motamed, Director of New Jersey Office for Refugees, to discuss the state-centric transition of U.S Refugee Admission Programs (USRAP) the impacts of SNAP and Medicaid/CHIP eligibility changes, and opportunities for collaboration. We are grateful for Congressman Menendez’s engagement and look forward to continuing our partnership in support of our communities.

The International Rescue Committee in New Jersey’s Refugee Legal Rights Protection Program provides 50 refugees with individual legal consultations, green card interview preparation, and assistance for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. The goal of the program is to safeguard the rights of vulnerable refugees in New Jersey who are applying for permanent residence. Amidst precariously shifting policies, the IRC in NJ ensures that its clients hailing from 60 countries have access to multilingual services to help them pursue legal stability and continue to rebuild their lives in New Jersey.
