Seven Springs Lake

Seven Springs Lake The Experience I am one of the very few people that built the dam for Seven Springs Lake in Elizabeth, Indiana. Now we were moving some dirt!

For the majority of the operation there were 3 heavy equipment operators, myself and 2 other men. The man that came up with this plan was my father-in-laws uncle. I have to say this is the best experience in my life in regards to work. I don't believe I had ever heard of a man made lake so being part of a crew to build a 127 acre lake was awesome. I started out driving a small John Deere pan which

carried maybe 9 yards of dirt. Another worker and I ran it 16 hours a day and progress was very slow. This dam was 1/4 mile long and extremely wide at the base. I believe it was during the third year that the owners purchased an Allis-Chalmers pan that carried 24 yards of dirt. That was such an awesome machine, especially in comparison to the tiny little sand box size John-Deere, lol. They hired a couple more operators and we ran both pans 16 hours a day, sometimes 7 days a week. It was exciting to see that last load of dirt go down but somewhat sad too. I really enjoyed this experience and now it was about to come to an end. To stand and look at it now, 30 some years later, it is hard to imagine the area without this beautiful lake.

It’s hard to believe that I helped build this lake. Funny how a lot of people consider this a farm pond. I had never heard of man made lakes hand thought it sounded like a monster size challenge but now to see it compared to the nations man made lakes it seems more like pond I will have day.

That photo of the lake was my first time in an airplane. Little four seater took off from a field in lanesville heading straight for the trees bouncing like an old jalopy. 😆

Hello Friends and Neighbors, I was just wondering if there are any good fishing stories yet this spring? I sure do miss the good days of drifting about the lake in my canoe catching some nice size bass or a mess of blue gill. And I can't leave out many a night on the bank waiting for a big cat to jingle my bell. Good times. Hope the lake is alive and providing lots of good memories.

I received a strange message today. Appears to be from some disgruntled person that may have been chased off the lake property. He says stop harassing visitors? LOL Well if he was visiting friends and family shouldn't be a problem but I'm guessing he was trespassing.
