I know with the current rain situation several people were asking about river flooding. This is the current prediction from NOAA. It is predicted to crest 10 feet below action level. I will be keeping an eye on rainfall and these predictions and will keep everyone updated.

* Until 145 PM EDT.

* At 114 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Lubeck, or
near Belpre, moving southeast at 30 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
Parkersburg, Belpre, Elizabeth, Vienna, Washington, Mineralwells,
Lubeck, Cherry, Walker, Palestine, Little Hocking, Lucille,
Freeport, Blennerhassett, Greencastle, Morristown, Davisville, and
Rockport.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 77 in West Virginia between mile markers 159 and 176.
Route 50 in West Virginia between mile markers 1 and 15.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

🚨 COMMUNITY DONATION REQUEST – FLOOD RELIEF 🚨

Donations can be dropped off after 3:00PM today.

Wirt County Office of Emergency Management and the Elizabeth-Wirt Volunteer Fire Department is asking our community to help support our neighbors in Lewis and Upshur Counties who have been impacted by recent flooding.

Donations are currently being collected to assist with shelter operations, cleanup efforts, and the immediate needs of affected residents.

Requested items include:
🧹 General cleaning supplies
🧼 Personal hygiene items and hygiene kits
🧴 Hand sanitizer
🧻 Paper products
🪥 Toiletries and other basic shelter necessities

We encourage residents, businesses, churches, and community organizations who are able to help to consider donating.

🚨 Severe Weather Outlook – Wirt County, WV 🚨

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has highlighted much of West Virginia, including the Wirt County area, for a 15–29% probability of severe weather within 25 miles of a point on Friday.

This is not a warning, but it is an early heads-up that strong to severe thunderstorms may be possible. Residents should stay weather aware as we get closer to Friday.

✅ Secure loose outdoor items before storms arrive.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Wirt County due to heavy rain and possible flash flooding.

•Potential flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas

WEATHER STATEMENT FOR WIRT COUNTY AND SURROUNDING AREAS

Strong thunderstorms are moving quickly across Wirt County and the surrounding region this evening, bringing gusty winds up to 40 mph and fast‑moving downpours. These storms are tracking east at about 40 mph, and will continue affecting the area through roughly 7:15 PM.

Areas of Immediate Concern
Communities in and around Elizabeth, Grantsville, Spencer, Harrisville, Glenville, Ripley, Pennsboro, West Union, and North Bend State Park are within the storm path. Portions of Interstate 77, Interstate 79, and Route 50 may experience sudden wind gusts and reduced visibility.

Primary Hazards
• Wind gusts up to 40 mph capable of breaking small limbs and moving unsecured outdoor items
• Brief but intense rainfall reducing visibility
• Potential for storms to strengthen as they move east

What This Means for Wirt County
Residents should expect quick‑hitting wind bursts, rapidly changing conditions, and the possibility of additional storm development behind the current line. Outdoor activities should be paused until storms pass.
