If you use CloudLibrary, it’s time to make the switch. You’ll need to create a Hoopla account and sign in with your library card to get started. Your CloudLibrary checkouts did not transfer, but the collection is ready and waiting for you in Hoopla.

The library was in this building until 1959!

Here is the 8th post on the history of Elizabeth CO. This is known as the Old Stone Church at 249 E Poplar St. Photos taken after 1924 and in 2026.

Built in 1900, this is a historic local landmark constructed from rough-cut local rhyolite Originally a Seventh-Day Adventist church, the building later served as a Presbyterian church, the town library until 1959, and eventually an artist's private residence and studio space.

It is made with rough-cut, uncoursed local rhyolite hewn by early town pioneers. The gothic Revival style featuring a notable belfry. The interior features an original hand-painted entryway mural and a loft built using structural beams salvaged from a nearby bridge.

Timeline of Uses
1900: Built as the Advent Church (Seventh-Day Adventist) on the Western frontier.
1902: Sold to the First Presbyterian congregation, who used it for worship until 1924.
1924–1959: Moved to the opposite corner of the block and converted into the Elizabeth Town Library.
Post-1959: Transitioned into private ownership as an artist's home and studio, retaining its unique historical footprint in the heart of town. It is still a private residence.

That’s a wrap on our 2026 Summer Reading Program - Unearth a Story!

All of our Summer Reading winners have been announced and contacted. A huge thank you to everyone who read, logged minutes, joined us for programs, and followed along this summer.

A new chapter is beginning for our digital library collection. Starting August 18, eBooks and audiobooks will move from CloudLibrary to Hoopla.

CloudLibrary users: August 17 is the last day to borrow, read, or listen. Any holds not filled by that date will expire, and checked-out items will be returned automatically.
