Thank you to all Kentuckians who participate in recycling efforts! The tire amnesty program runs on a 3-year cycle and are always open to any Kentucky resident. Each year 40 of our 120 counties have collection days. The next one for Hardin County is in 2028 (we had one last year).

Folks, this is circulating nationwide across various social media platforms. I’ve see it posted locally. It is 100% disinformation.

Poll workers do not make any marks on ballots. (The ONLY exception is if a voter requests voter assistance. In that case, a bipartisan team of poll workers assist the voter, and it’s documented.)

IF a stray mark (letters or symbols) are on a ballot, that does not invalidate a ballot in ANY WAY. Only marks made by the voter in the box next to the candidate of their choice (or the yes/no box in the case of the constitutional amendment) are counted.

Please contact our office before spreading false information. We are happy to answer your questions about our elections.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

All residents in unincorporated Hardin County (not in a city limits) please take note of the following.

The trash service contracted with Hardin County, Unified Disposal Partners (UDP), will be adding their logo and lettering to our trash carts during the next 6–8 weeks.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
Until your carts have been stickered: Please continue placing ALL of your carts at the curb every week on your REGULAR service day, even if they are empty. UDP crews will be following behind garbage trucks to sticker the carts.

This is a lengthy process, and it is not possible to notify you which specific day your house will be re-stickered. Once your carts have been completed, you will only need to place them at the curb on your regular service day when they are full.

Please help us spread the word and make sure your carts are accessible so this process can go smoothly

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hardin County Judge/Executive Keith Taul signed a contract today to repair the historic White Mills Truss Bridge on Old 84 State Highway, which has been closed since earlier this year due to damage.

"Under the leadership of Senior Engineer Mark Absher, the County has coordinated with contractors and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to identify and plan the necessary repairs," Taul said. "The project is estimated to cost up to approximately $90,000, with 80% of eligible costs reimbursed through the state’s 80/20 funding program. Repairs are expected to be completed within 60 days and will restore the bridge for vehicle traffic, with reopening anticipated by the end of 2026."

Absher said there were numerous ways the repairs could have been handled, but ultimately going forward with this approach made the most sense.

"We looked at several different options in addressing the issues at White Mills Bridge. The bare minimum was to replace the two failed members. But in looking at the bridge characteristic we are going to be proactive and replace two members directly across from the failed members, along with the two failed members," Absher said. "This additional repair is with concurrence from state. The goal is to make it to where vehicles can use it again, pending state approval, and to improve the longevity of the bridge by proactively replacing four members.”

Taul said his sincere hope is the bridge will be ready in time for the annual Christmas lighting, a tradition that has been popular for many years.

The Hardin County Planning and Development Commission was notified today, October 13, 2026, Rafferty Development has withdrawn their Zone Change request from R-1 to C-1 for a proposed Dollar General Store at 2305 Hodgenville Road, Elizabethtown, KY.
This item has been removed from tonight's Planning Commission Meeting agenda and there will be no public comment allowed on this request.
The meeting is still open to the public, but there are no hearings on the agenda.
