𝗔 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻

Good Morning,
I am writing this letter to show my appreciation to your telecommunicators for a situation that took place this week involving myself. My son and I were working nearby this week and had stopped for lunch. Like we usually do we grabbed us a bite to eat and sat down near our construction site to take a break. While we were eating a piece of hamburger became lodged in my throat cutting off my air supply. Quick thinking on my 16 year olds part for giving me the Heimlich Maneuver which quick dislodged some of the hamburger but I still needed help. He quickly called 911 and began speaking with a young lady on the other end. I could hear the conversation while still grasping for air. The telecommunicator was very calm and understanding with my son on the phone while they arranged to get help for me. After a short time period help arrived and I was able to catch my breath and continue on with my day. I wanted to highlight the professionalism and calmness that your telecommunicator showed during my stressful situation as well as the patience with my son while he navigated that call. Thank you again to all the telecommunciators that took part in the situation and im grateful to live and work in a county with such caring professionals on the other end of the phone.
Thankful Citizen

This week, the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association brought together Sheriffs and Law Enforcement personnel from across the state for its annual Legislative Day at the General Assembly in Raleigh.
Held each year during the legislative session, Legislative Day provides an opportunity for sheriffs and their staff to meet directly with state lawmakers and discuss issues impacting public safety and law enforcement in their communities. The event fosters collaboration between local law enforcement leaders and legislators while ensuring that public safety concerns are represented in policy discussions.

One of the primary issues discussed during this year’s event was the need for legislation to restrict minors’ access to THC products. Sheriffs voiced concerns about the widespread availability of intoxicating THC products and the risks they pose to children and other consumers. Attendees also reviewed proposed legislation aimed at combating robocall scams by making it illegal for individuals to falsely represent themselves as sheriffs or law enforcement personnel to defraud residents of money, a scheme that has become increasingly prevalent across North Carolina.

Sheriff Mcvicker Stated :
“Strong partnerships between legislators and law enforcement are essential to developing laws and policies that enhance public safety and address the evolving needs of our communities. By working together, we can help ensure that our county and state remain safe places to live, work, and raise a family. It is especially important that we protect our youth by supporting measures that keep THC products out of the hands of minors. Creating safeguards for young people helps foster a safer, healthier, and more productive environment for the youth of Bladen County, allowing them the opportunity to grow and succeed.”
