Shout out to Marathon Petroleum!

Recently, the Elk City Police Department applied for a grant through Marathon Petroleum to support public safety initiatives. We are excited and grateful to announce that we were awarded a $5,000 grant!

The funds will be used to purchase two thermal monocular devices, which will assist our officers in locating and recovering persons at night and apprehending suspects in low-light or dark conditions.

Thank you, Marathon Petroleum, for your continued support of public safety and the Elk City community! We truly appreciate this investment in helping our officers better serve and protect our citizens.

As Elk City students head back to school this morning, the Elk City Police Department is proud to support a safe and successful school year!

We’d like to give a special shoutout to our dedicated School Resource Officers, SGT. Chaney and CPL. Valencia. These two are excited to kick off the new school year and can’t wait to be back on campus, supporting students, staff, and families! You will see them around school helping keep our campuses safe, building positive relationships with students, and being a trusted resource in the halls and classrooms. Their presence is more than just protection. It’s about connection, mentorship, and community.

🚌🍎BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY ALERT!🍏🚔

School is back in session starting tomorrow, Elk City! As our kids return to the classroom, let’s work together to keep them safe.

Back-to-school season means more traffic, more buses, and more kids walking and biking. The safety of our students is our top priority, and it should be yours, too.

🔴DRIVING SAFETY IN SCHOOL ZONES
With school buses running, busy drop-offs, and young pedestrians everywhere, here are some important reminders:
▪️ Be aware of traffic patterns near each school zone.
▪️Stay alert and put away your phone! Using a handheld device in an active school zone is illegal.
▪️Obey posted speed limits. Fines are higher in school zones.
▪️Use designated drop-off/pick-up zones. Never stop in the middle of the street.
▪️Watch for children at bus stops and crossing streets.
▪️Never go around a school bus with flashing lights and stop sign out.
▪️Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
▪️Allow extra drive time. Congestion will be heavy during morning and afternoon hours.
▪️ Talk to your teen drivers about safe habits.

🔴Special Reminder:
The speed limit on West Ave. A is 20 MPH. This area sees heavy foot and vehicle traffic near the football field and Ackley Park. Please be alert and drive cautiously throughout the day.

🔴SAFETY TIPS FOR KIDS WALKING OR BIKING TO SCHOOL
▪️Use sidewalks. If there’s none, walk facing traffic.
▪️Cross at intersections or marked crosswalks.
▪️Make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
▪️Always wear a helmet when biking.
▪️Avoid distractions like phones or earbuds while walking.
▪️Follow traffic signals and rules at all times.
