World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Each year, millions of older adults experience some form of abuse. It can take many forms, including physical, emotional, financial exploitation, or neglect—and it often goes unreported due to fear, isolation, or lack of awareness.

Abuse affects millions of older adults each year. It can take the form of physical or emotional harm, financial exploitation, or neglect. Too often, these cases go unnoticed and unreported because of fear, isolation, or a lack of information and support.

As our population ages, we all share a responsibility to ensure older adults are safe and supported. Elder abuse is not just a personal issue—it is a public health and community issue that affects families, healthcare systems, and the well-being of entire communities.

Warning signs can include:
Sudden changes in behavior or mood
Unexplained injuries
Withdrawal from normal activities
Financial irregularities or missing resources
Poor hygiene or unmet basic needs

Recognizing these signs—and knowing how to respond—can make a life-changing difference.

At the Kenneth Young Center, Older Adult Services are designed to support aging individuals with dignity, safety, and connection. Our team provides resources, advocacy, mental health support, and guidance to ensure older adults—and their caregivers—are not navigating these challenges alone.

Community isn't built by chance—it's built through intention, investment, and partnership.

That's why Kenneth Young Center is proud to support the 6th Annual Juneteenth in the Burbs, a celebration that continues to grow as a gathering place for culture, connection, entrepreneurship, education, and community pride.

We're honored to stand alongside the organizers, volunteers, vendors, performers, and attendees who make this event possible each year.

We'll see you there.
