Since the beginning of August, all sworn members of our Police Department have completed the Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) across 10 sessions, with the final session concluding this week.

This hands‑on training strengthens officers’ skills in safely maneuvering emergency vehicles under high‑pressure conditions, emphasizing precision driving, hazard avoidance, and decision‑making. Congratulations to Officer Leja and Officer Wedekind, who were presented with Life‑Saving Awards for their exemplary performance during two medical emergencies that occurred in April and June this year.

In both emergencies, officers responded to individuals who were found unconscious and not breathing. Upon arrival, Officer Leja immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) upon locating the patients. Officer Wedekind arrived shortly after with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and administered a life‑saving shock before prompting the continuation of CPR. Officer Leja continued chest compressions as directed by the AED until Elk Grove Village Paramedics arrived and took over advanced life-saving care and transported both individuals to Alexian Brothers Medical Center for further treatment. In each case, the patients ultimately survived thanks to the immediate and coordinated efforts of both officers and paramedics.

Their swift response, teamwork, and commitment to service exemplify the highest standards of the Elk Grove Village Police Department. Thank you, Officer Leja and Officer Wedekind!

Today, Chief Dorn had the pleasure of being the guest speaker at the Sheila Ray Adult Center.

He provided attendees with an overview of the Police Department’s structure, its core responsibilities, and the various divisions that work together to support the community. Chief Dorn also shared updates on ongoing initiatives, community engagement efforts, and the department’s commitment to public safety.

Attendees wrapped up the visit with a Q&A session, asking thoughtful questions about department operations and community concerns. It was a great opportunity for seniors to connect directly with Chief Dorn and learn more about the work happening behind the scenes every day. Thank you to everyone who attended!
