Investigation Update: A two-year investigation concluded about two weeks ago when detectives arrested a former treasurer and president of a youth football league.

The investigation was extensive and included more than 20 search warrants and record inquiry requests. Detectives determined that 41-year-old Kristina Vazquez, a former Elk Grove Jr. Thundering Herd treasurer and president, embezzled more than $100,000 over the six years she served on the youth football board.

According to detectives, Vazquez used funds from the youth football account to pay for mortgage payments, car payments, plane tickets, hotels, Disneyland tickets, and other personal expenses.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Vazquez, and she was taken into custody on May 14th. She was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on felony charges of embezzlement and grand theft. Vazquez is scheduled to appear in court on June 24th.

Earlier this afternoon, one of our motor officers was involved in a collision with another vehicle.

We are happy to report that the officer is okay; however, he was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for his injuries. No one else was injured.

The collision occurred around 12:30 p.m. in front of Kerr Middle School on Elk Grove Boulevard.

Elk Grove Boulevard has since reopened.

Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested Within Hours After Pedestrian Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries

Officers responded to A hit-and-run that just occurred involving a vehicle versus pedestrian on Elk Grove Florin Road north of Heritage Hill Drive around 8:43 PM on May 23, 2026. Bystanders remained with the victim, a 47-year-old man and Elk Grove resident, who was found lying in the northbound lanes of traffic.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was immediately transported by fire personnel to a local hospital. According to medical staff, the victim is not expected to survive his injuries.

Our Real Time Information Center (RTIC) found a white Honda minivan fleeing northbound EGF after the collision on traffic cameras. The driver ran the red light at Brown Road and nearly struck another pedestrian who was walking in a crosswalk. Using the department’s Automated License Plate Reader system, RTIC identified a license plate associated with the fleeing vehicle, which was registered outside the area. A review of prior calls for service identified Demond Hunter as a subject who had previously been contacted while driving the vehicle.

Officers located the 35-year-old Hunter north of the city in the County of Sacramento where he was with the white Honda van. The van had damage to the hood, consistent with being involved in a collision.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Traffic Investigators determined the pedestrian was walking northbound onto the east side sidewalk at the apartment complex driveway at 8575 Elk Grove Florin Road when a vehicle exited the driveway and struck the pedestrian as it entered northbound Elk Grove Florin Road.

Hunter was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for felony DUI and felony Hit-and-Run. Additional charges will be sought pending the victim’s condition.

Thanks to the good work and the effective use of technology, we were able to quickly identify and locate the suspect, who was taken into custody within three hours of the collision.
