Investigation Update: A two-year investigation concluded about two weeks ago when detectives arrested a former treasurer and president of a youth football league.
The investigation was extensive and included more than 20 search warrants and record inquiry requests. Detectives determined that 41-year-old Kristina Vazquez, a former Elk Grove Jr. Thundering Herd treasurer and president, embezzled more than $100,000 over the six years she served on the youth football board.
According to detectives, Vazquez used funds from the youth football account to pay for mortgage payments, car payments, plane tickets, hotels, Disneyland tickets, and other personal expenses.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Vazquez, and she was taken into custody on May 14th. She was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on felony charges of embezzlement and grand theft. Vazquez is scheduled to appear in court on June 24th.
