Elk Horn and Kimballton are 2 of the largest rural Danish settlements in the United States; located in the state of Iowa. The villages were lucky enough to have been highlighted in a documentary by Danish filmmakers, Jakob Volver and Anders Birch in 2013, which was a huge success while airing on DR1 in Denmark. A big thank you to everyone who came out for this year’s Easter Egg Hunt at the Danish Windmill! 🐰🌷🐣

Days like this are why we love being part of a small community. Watching kids race across the grass, seeing familiar faces, and realizing how much the children in our community have grown since last year—it really means something to all of us.

We’re so grateful to the volunteers, sponsors, and helpers who make this event happen behind the scenes. It truly takes a village, and we think ours is pretty special. 💚

Let’s be honest — most high school seniors aren’t scrolling Facebook these days. That’s why we rely on our very important Parent, Grandparent, Aunt, Uncle, and Neighbor Notification Network.

If you know a senior in the Danish Villages, please pass this along! DVIO Scholarship applications are due in 1 month.

Who Can Apply: Graduating seniors living in the Danish Villages (Elk Horn and Kimballton) of Iowa

$500 scholarship for community involvement towards college or post-high school educational training.

The scholarship will be awarded based on a student’s leadership, personal involvement and contributions to the community and the area schools, as well as their commitment to the future of our community.

Application Deadline: Thursday, April 2nd, 3:30PM CST

We had an egg-cellent time celebrating with all of you—seeing the joy on so many little faces truly made our day 🌼 Many thanks to the sponsors, donors, and volunteers who made this event possible!

Only 18 days remain until the big Easter Egg Hunt! 🐰🥚

The countdown is on, and we can’t wait to see you there! Here are a few important reminders:

📍 Event Details:
📅 Date: Saturday, April 19th
⏰ Time: 10:30 AM
📍 Location: Kimballton City Ball Diamonds
🐣 The Easter Egg Hunt is for kids 10 & under.
🌭 Stay for Lunch! After the hunt, enjoy a hot dog lunch with a free-will donation.

🌟 How You Can Help:
🍬 Donate candy! Drop it off at the Norse Horse or Elk Horn Public Library by April 7th.
💙 If your child needs accommodations, please call 402-613-3325 by April 15th.

Hey everyone! 🐰 Spring is hopping our way, and that means our Village Easter Egg Hunt is just around the corner! We're buzzing with excitement to bring this fun-filled event to our community, but we need your help to make it egg-stra special!

Think of the smiles and giggles as our little ones discover hidden treasures! To make this happen, we need your generous support! We need candy and prize donations!

Got extra bags of individually wrapped candy? Fun prizes for our raffle? Your contributions will help us fill those eggs and create a truly magical experience for our kids.

You can donate:
Candy and prize donations can be dropped off at The Elk Horn Public Library or The Norse Horse by April 7th.
