A few simple steps can go a long way in protecting your property.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to make property security part of their regular routine—whether it’s your home, a rental property, vacation property, outbuilding or other location that may sit unoccupied for periods of time.
A few things to remember:
• Lock doors, windows and outbuildings, including when you are home.
• Use secondary locks on sliding doors and accessible windows.
• Consider security cameras, motion lights, alarms or other sensors.
• Keep a record of valuable property, including photos and serial numbers when available.
• Regularly check doors, windows, gates and other access points—especially at properties that aren’t occupied every day.
Good security doesn’t have to be complicated. A few consistent habits can help deter theft and make your property less vulnerable.
