Eastwood Elementary School

Eastwood Elementary School A warm, exciting, and fun elementary school on the northeast side of Elkhart. At Eastwood, school is a warm, exciting, and fun place to be.

The heart and soul of Eastwood Elementary is certainly the children, who enter the building each day eager to learn. Their enthusiasm to acquire a new piece of knowledge, to participate in a school activity, or to just be with friends is contagious. It spreads to the many dedicated teachers who come to Eastwood each day ready to share their knowledge and expertise with children. Our parent involve

ment is exceptional, and the many parents and community members who work with us each day help complete a circle of caring individuals striving to do what is best for children. Elkhart Schools welcomes the community to the Eastwood Elementary page. ECS has created this Page to engage our community in an informative conversation about what is happening in our schools. We intend this to be a family-friendly forum where people can ask questions, share what is going on in their schools and learn more about what is happening in Eastwood Elementary. Community-contributed comments on the Page are the opinion of their author and do not represent the school district. The district abides by Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, and asks its Facebook Fans to do the same. In particular, please do not "post unauthorized commercial solicitations (such as spam)"; "bully, intimidate, or harass any user"; "post content that is hateful, threatening, pornographic, or that contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence"; or "do anything unlawful, misleading, malicious, or discriminatory" on ECS' page. ECS reserves the right, but is not obligated, to remove comments that contain commercial solicitations; are factually erroneous/libelous; are off-topic; that cannot be translated into English by widely-available free online translation tools; or that otherwise violate Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities such as those listed above. Facebook encourages all users to utilize the "Report" links when they find abusive content. The Elkhart Community Schools thanks you in advance for visiting Eastwood Elementary's page, and for your help in creating a safe and helpful online community here.

Mr. Thompson’s third graders have been hard at work this week diving into research on extreme weather. Students are exploring topics such as hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, and more as they gather information and organize their learning into informative posters.

This project aligns with Indiana’s Grade 3 standards, including:

Research: Students conduct short research projects that build knowledge about a topic (3.W.6)
Writing: Students write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas clearly (3.W.3)
Speaking & Listening: Students report on a topic with appropriate facts and details, speaking clearly at an understandable pace (3.CC.7)

To wrap up the week, students will present their posters to the class, practicing their speaking skills while teaching others about their chosen extreme weather event.
