🚨OPEN BURNING UPDATE–SURRY COUNTY

The North Carolina Forest Service has lifted the statewide open burning ban for most counties effective Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 8:00 a.m.

✅ In Surry County, open burning is now allowed with a valid burn permit.

❗ However, several counties across the state remain under a burn ban. Please check the map below and stay informed before burning.

🔥 Important Reminders:
• A valid burn permit is still required
• Never leave a fire unattended
• Keep water or tools nearby to control the fire
• Avoid burning on windy or dry days

Our priority is keeping our community safe. Careless burning can quickly get out of control and lead to dangerous wildfires.

For permits and more information, visit: https://ncforestservice.gov

Stay safe, Surry County! 👮‍♂️

BURN BAN RESCINDED WITHIN 100 FT OF HOUSES
(In Surry County)

Due to the recent rain and favorable weather conditions, the current Surry County burn ban, which became effective on March 28, 2026, will be rescinded for all of Surry County. The rescinding of the Surry County Burn Ban will take effect on April 30, 2026, at 5 p.m., and applies only within 100 feet of an occupied structure.

The North Carolina State Forest Service burn ban is still in effect for areas more than 100 feet from an occupied structure until rescinded by the State.

Residential open burning is the burning of leaves, tree branches, yard trimmings, logs and stumps that originate from your residence.

Respectfully,
Jimmy Ashburn, Surry County Fire Marshal's Office
