The CSD Board of School Directors convened for its monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 13 at the Administration Building and via Zoom. The following are the key takeaways:
The school board recognized seniors Isabel Areman, Joshua Owens and Nayan Foxhall on their National Merit recognitions that reflect their academic excellence, dedication, perseverance, and commitment to learning.
CSD Interim Superintendent Dr. Christopher McGinley reviewed some of the work undertaken in response to the Center for Safe Schools reports, including building and grounds perimeter security (trimming trees and shrubbery and the addition of security cameras); interior access control, security and training (access software upgrades and kiosk and window security); and security and training around mental health (increased mental health supports and trauma informed practices).
CHS Vice Principal / Athletic Director Sam Sheridan delivered a presentation regarding programs that have been undertaken at the high school to promote a stronger culture that supports student learning and growth.
The board adopted a resolution authorizing the issuance of general obligation bonds in the maximum principal amount of $12M on a parameters basis to make capital improvements.
The board approved McPherson & Jacobson as the search firm which will assist in finding a new superintendent.

Cedarbrook student Ray Bonner’s play play “The Ultimate Hat Trick” has been selected to be performed at the Philadelphia Young Playwrights’ (PYP) SaturPLAY on January 16 at the Please Touch Museum. Bonner’s play, which he penned as a sixth grader at Cedarbrook East, is a funny look at a day in the life of twin brothers as they search for their misplaced headwear.

In addition, Bonner was offered entry to PYP’s advanced playwriting cohort, the Playwriting Collective, a creative community for dedicated playwrights and storytellers. As a member, Bonner will participate in a full year of group workshops, receive one-on-one mentorship, have access to free theater tickets, and have opportunities to hear his work out loud, all of which will give him the opportunity to dive deeper into his work alongside a cohort of committed playwrights.
