It’s been a long time coming (always how these things go) but we’re closing on financing for two big projects and preparing to break ground. Although project sites have been quiet over the past couple years, the figurative “boys in the back room” have been working non-stop to make your projects Real. More very soon!

Where funding flows shapes what communities can build.

Most philanthropic dollars in the U.S. concentrate in large metropolitan areas. Rural communities, including much of Appalachia, receive only a small share of national giving.

Yet these communities are home to millions of people, thousands of communities, and a growing need for safe, stable housing.

When investment reaches rural places, communities have the tools to build the homes families need, and the door is opened for more progress.

We are excited to support this project of the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad and the Belington Golden Rule ! Grab tickets before they sell out and join us for a mid-summer celebration of so much of what we love about our home — the scenic beauty, vibrant communities, and rich history.

Join us Friday, June 19th for a special roundtrip ride from Elkins to Belington celebrating the history of our state and nation!

This 4-hour excursion will carry passengers on a leisurely sunset journey though the scenic West Virginia countryside along the banks of the Tygart River to the town of Belington, WV. On the trip, historic interpreters will move thoughout the cars as the train makes its way to Belington. Once in Belington, riders will detrain at the historic Golden Rule Building and be greeted to WV Day / 250th Anniversary festivities which will include live music, living history performers, food and craft vendors, along with various activities for kids.

The train will depart the Elkins Depot at 5pm and feature an approximately 2-hour layover in Belington. The train will then return to Elkins around 9pm. Don’t miss this once-in-a-generation special event!

Yes. And recognizing those differences is key to solving them.

In many rural communities across Appalachia, the issue is not only affordability. It’s also housing supply.

Aging homes, fewer builders, limited development financing, and smaller construction workforces make it harder to build new housing at the pace communities need.

Understanding how rural housing works helps ensure solutions match the reality on the ground.

Fahe’s Network brings decades of experience in rural housing development. They know their communities, understand the barriers, and have proven strategies to address them. What allows that work to grow is access to capital that matches the scale of the need.
