Washington County Arkansas Judge Patrick Deakins has issued a county wide burn ban beginning today, August 11, at noon.

“Right now, we have to consider not only the threat of fire, but also the conditions our firefighters and other emergency responders are working in,” said Judge Deakins. With temperatures in the upper 90s and heat indexes expected to exceed 100 degrees, the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke is very real. “A burn ban will not eliminate every fire, but it can reduce the number of preventable fires caused by outdoor burning. Every fire we can prevent means one less situation where we are asking our first responders to work in these extreme conditions.”

Six hours after this post was made, we identified a suspect and questioned them about the vehicle break-ins. Since the case involves a juvenile, no additional information can be released. It should be noted that no additional vehicle burglaries have been reported.

Over the past two weeks the Stokenbury Farms home developments have experienced several vehicle burglaries. Please make sure your vehicles are locked and garages are closed. If you have a remote garage opener in your vehicle we suggest you remove it or conceal it. If anyone sees any suspicious person walking the streets at night, please call the Elkins Police Department.
