"Stories at the Park" is today at the Elkins City Park at 10:30 am with stories and a craft. The theme is hibernation, but the story “Bear Can’t Sleep” won’t put up you to sleep!

Stop by the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library to see our Rosie the Riveter display and learn about how local women supported the war effort in WWII. These women broke a glass ceiling while serving patriotically!

Thank you to Our Town for beginning this initiative and to Linda Shomo for collecting these stories and helping to organize the display!

The Elkins-Randolph County Public Library is wrapping up the "Tails and Tales" Summer Reading Program with "Hibernation Week."

Stop by the library to complete a Bear Snores On craft or the hibernating animals word search. Listen to podcasts for the digital challenge. As always, there will be a new bingo card which you can complete to win a prize.

"Stories in the Park" will take place at the Sycamore Pavilion in the Elkins City Park at 10:30 on Tuesday, August 24. And don't fret! Although the Summer Reading Program is taking a winter nap, "Stories in the Park" will continue to meet on Tuesdays at the Elkins City Park until it gets too cold to gather outside.

in 1918 Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Harvey Firestone visited Randolph County in 1918. They stopped in Elkins, Huttonsville, and stayed at the Cheat Mountain Club on their way to Tennessee. These businessmen took a two-week camping trip though Appalachia along with naturalist John Burroughs. Their expedition helped popularize the automobile as a recreational vehicle. Learn more about early automobile travel in our exhibit "Travel a Turnpike Through Time".
